Endura ? Delica - update - Need input
Hi Sal - thanks for giving us the opportunity to burry you under an avalanche of ideas.
1. Larger opening hole.
2. Add the Cobra Hood.
3. Smoothen out the handle and give it a more sturdier profile with out adding too much bulk.
4. Intergrate a (detachable) Photon light that can be used incorporated in the knife or solo (detached from the knife)
5. New slotted left-right clip.
6. Adjustable pivot?
7. "Adult" colors and different Camo schemes.
8. Keep the blades as "slim" as possible. Not as "fat as the Salsa's.
9. Compression Lock?
10. Please resist the "Cheap" blade treatments. Give it an acceptable shine, please.
I hope this input will be of some help.

Had a delica for 3yrs as constant carry... Gave it to my buddy when I got my millie.
Bought another delica last fall, gave it away on the forums... felt too small.
Carried an Endura for over a year (24/7) until I caught the clip on a table one too many times. Soon going to send in for repairs.
Ideas for Delica:
1> wider handle, top to bottom. Thickness is great on it already, just seems skinny.
2> 3.5-4mm blade would be better to beat on, keep hearing tales of broken tips.
3> flat grind (blame it on Alex)
4> lose the dent. Been playing with spydies since aug 99 and haven't managed to squeeze one closed yet in use.

6> thumb serrations on spine.

Personnally, I find those knives close enough to what I like to change them but for the sake of taking it to another level here are my suggestions:
I'd also like to see a bi-directionnal texturing like the D'allara has. The size of the hole is fine with me but many of use would like to see it bigger so go for it. No cobra-hood please. It may be a nice feature but I don't see it on a Delica. Steel is good, ergos too. A few color options for the handle like OD would be nice. And like someone pointed out, I already use the front of the ricasso as a sort of choil, so you could redesign this part of the blade and the handle just a bit to make the finger sit there more naturally. Apart from those little details, everything i how I like it.

The Delica is near perfect in design due to keeping it simple, the very reason that it makes such a great budget knife.
To improve without tinkering too much with its identity I'd second Deacon on the bi-di texturing (I say black fish scale) and Pyrochazm for a good choil (a Dragonfly-like one, but deeper, will do).
Keep FRN, keep VG-10, keep ambi-clips (but leave the SS uncoated), keep the general blade shape but up the hole size if possible.
Full flat grind and thumb grooves are nice extras. Would not hurt if it were possible.

Jeff asked that I post a picture I did up for a thread I started with ideas for a revamped R here as well, as it contains a some of the ideas he'd like to see in the next generation of Enduras and Delicas. Since he's a tip-up guy, while I prefer tip-down, I added another set of studs (and the clip) to this one.

Actually, the more I use my Delica, the more I like the saber-flat grind. The only change I want is an integral guard/choil like what we see on the Native, Salsa, Dodo, and Scorpius.

I have been meaning to get logged on to the Forum for a long time but I HAD to after seeing this topic.
I have been carrying Enduras in my pocket every day for about 12 years. The only thing I ever really wanted improved or updated on it you good folks at Spyderco did soon after I thought it. A reversible metal clip, as sometimes I carry one in my left pocket.
I prefer a tip up carry and cannot get used to tip down. I really tighten the single bolt with a touch of blue loctite and have not had any problems with the clip moving since then. I like the blade profile, grind, and thickness.
Possible Changes:
1.I must say I did like the nice big blade hole on a Salt that I handled recently.
2. I would LOVE to see some new colors even if they were just a Sprint run like the Goddards recently. The blue Spyderhawks I have seen on ebay look like a great color. I would buy two of any masculine color...one for the collection and one to use.
I like Delicas too but I am an Endura addict. Please don't change them too much. Some of these ideas sound like a whole new model (like the Pacific Salt.)

First the FRN handle gave it a more pleasing look over the steel handled models. Also, it lowered the price point.
Whatever you do to the Endura/Delica, keep its basic vision in mind. Good quality, good materials, good price.
On that note, if the ball lock would work, I would buy one in a second. Also a new texture on the handle might be neat.

Some of the suggestions would indicate an "LX" version in addition to an upgrade.
As mentioned, part of the success is based on the light weight, easy carry, excellent steel and good price point.
Certainly a lot to think about.
