In Italy we say: pochi ma buoni! (few but very goods! Less or more)

(First I want to THANK alls for attention and patience, second I¡¦m happy because if you have answered me it means that you have understood something of my English, third I¡¦m sorry for the retard of reply but I have some university¡¦s exams in this moment to do...).

To java (is Alofi in New Zealand?), CIVILIAN and Sirenhead: clear, there are more kind of rescue and as a consequence there are more kind of rescue¡¦s knifes that they give the optimal but single specific solution, but when I¡¦m in service I¡¦m in front of a lot of different hypothetical situations: car crashes (from mule-track to highway), rescue in cave, floods, forest¡¦s fire, earthquake for to give some examples, so I need an all purpose knife ( I would like to go about with different knifes ¡¥cause I love the knifes but obviously it¡¦s impossible).

The PRT VIII (is the Colt's Rescue knife or the contrary), it¡¦s not a bad solution but the handle¡¦s grip it¡¦s not good and the lateral release button is comfortable but I believe dangerous in hard gloved grip, also the shape of tip it¡¦s dangerous too, another bad feeling you have when you open it (D¡¦Allara is fantastic, quickly and smoothly opening! Have you got problems in closing? The model that I¡¦ve proved when I¡¦ve unlocked the ball-bearing system in vertical position, blade up handle down, the blade is fallen down without brake and it has cut my annular finger¡K ƒ&#188<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> , idem for the tip of M.O.D. model (in more in Italy MOD costs the hearth!), it¡¦s more secure the maserin¡¦s solution with its all rounded tip (if you haven¡¦t seen never this model I can include a picture next time if you want).

For breaking glass we have in our rover defender an appropriate hammer, but the problem is that sometime you haven¡¦t the time or the right self-control to take it when you are going out of the car (time its fundamental), another little detail there is only one hammer for car and we¡¦re at least two or more operators (welcome in Italy :-( ).

Yes, it¡¦s true, there are many interesting fixed blade but I don¡¦t see up to now a good and safely shape foot fit in a fixed blade and also the Benchmade H2O River Rescue hasn¡¦t it and a full serrated blade for cut all materials like spyderco¡¦s blade can to do (do you know another examples?). Moreover the fixed blades are more strong for many others operations like to raise, to unscrew, to dig etch. etch.... YES I know, the knife is made to cut but when you are in emergency situation you don¡¦t play the pedant!!!

I think that you consider better D¡¦Allara rescue respect Assist model, because it¡¦s more solid, balance and in an instrument the reliability is all.

For the whistle I have one that I use to divert traffic, but if you have another one it¡¦s better even if it isn¡¦t necessary.

To Jimmy-Dean: I¡¦ve a look to the Harpy and you have reason for the blade geometry and for cutting rope but the tip is too much thin (problably it can brake itself in torsion or in a fall) and I don¡¦t believe that the metallic handle give the same grip of Fiberglas Reinforced Nylon handle in wet, very cold conditions or with gloved hands. However when I¡¦ll go in a cutlery I¡¦ll try it, thanks.

So, because one and only ¡§perfect¡§ object for reliever don't exist, a solution could be this:

- a pocket kit with: -D¡¦Allara rescue

-a stick glass-breaker (window punch in English, right?)

-a little scalpel or folder for incisions (the salt1 could be a solution with its no rust blade)

What do you think about it?

Again many thanks

Davirus,

Alofi is the capital of Niue. I cyber-moved here about two years ago for the diving and relaxed life style. Niue is one of the world’s largest coral islands and some of the clearest water can be found here with visibility easily in the 100-foot plus range. Alofi is a teeming metropolis of just about 1,000 souls.

We have a parliamentary government and we are self-governing in free association with New Zealand since 1974. Niue is responsible for her internal affairs and we leave responsibility for external affairs and defense to New Zealand (at our request when we need it when we want if we want it)

The nice thing is all us Niueians retain dual citizen status in Niue and New Zealand. We have the best of both worlds. Niue used to be known as Savage Island. I think that stems from the fact that when Capt. James Cook landed here in the 1800s, a bunch of us locals chased him back to his boat. We like our isolation.

I haven’t handled the PRT VIII but have heard good comments. M.O.D. costs a bundle of cash over here as well. I think for the price, you cannot do better than the quality and functional capabilities of the D’Allara. To use the old idiom – you get more bang for the buck. Keep yourself out of harms way and let us know if you have any questions or views. Welcome once again….
