Leatherman has introduced a new version of the Wave, and a closely related high-quality series of multitools called the Charge (it has Ti handles and high-quality steel). They all seem to have significant improvements in plier design and include built in bitdrivers, among other more subtle improvements. The serrated knife on the Charge XTI also incorporates a cutting hook, which looks pretty useful.



Anyway, among other things they also include special bit drivers that take special flattened bits, saving a lot of space. Using these would be a good modification for the spyderench whenever it comes back out, as it would allow more bits/flatter profile.

Yup...them Leatherman tools come in handy. ALWAYS have the Micra in my fanny bag, and my old PST see's the most use around the house.

Had the one w/ the pocket clip, but gave to my friend who was moving to Canada. Wish more of them had clips!

jeremy, my understanding is that the new Wave just has a Ti finish coating. This was from a knife dealer I buy from..Still plan on buying one, just for the new tools. I don't anywhere without my leatherman and spyderco...( Airplanes, excluded:-)

My current EDC: Victorinox Cybertool 34. Apparently standard issue for astronauts these days. Proved itself handy on many an occasion, I just wish a more comprehensive set of bits were available. I mostly use the tools, but the knives have been handy too. I also have a Leatherman Juice KF4, which is a nice size for the pocket, and is better suited for more rugged applications.

So for my money, I would go for the XTi due to the crimping function (electronics), cutting hook (which compensates for the lack of scissors), and the second bit holder (with an appropriately chosen torx bit). Plus the extra bit set. OTOH, light small pocket sized tools actually get carried by me, so I might not bother.

I was interested in the spyderench because it has something no other multitool has - an adjustable wrench. Which comes up a lot in mechanical applications. My basic motive is "as many functions in as little space as possible" - which hasn't really been met by any tool yet. Heck, I'm still waiting for all the really obvious electronic gadgets to be incorporated into a cellphone.

Have to agree on the cyber tool--heck of a SAK. Like I said, I plan to get one of the new waves.. Leatherman does not make a bad product. Heck, I also carry a micro tool as well. At last count, I have three knives on me at all times.. Also a BIC lighter.. My mini survial kit..LOL>.

Multitool wise Ive carried a 34 Cybertool for a number of years now, will always carry this in the industry Im in.
It is not a luxury for me, its definetly a nessesity.
I also now have a Leathman Crunch, it doesnt have tons of tools in it but is quite a solid sucker.

They both real neat
