OT: S&W Urban Ti Camo knives...

#1

Post by DAYWALKER »

Aloha all!

Please don't hate me for this, but ****, I have this thing for recurves and I think I'm gonna get me a S&W TI Urban Camo recurve folder. I thought it looked kinda cool.

I know, I know...but I have a S&W HRT Badge knife in my work bag, and the quality isn't THAT bad. BE ADVISED...I am NOT talking about their "Cuttin' Horse" line. Those suck.

Anyway, I know AET had a few of their knives. Does anyone or has anyone else have experience with their folders? Like I said, I like the recurve blade and i am rather curious on their Ti coat...

Mahalo and God bless!

I have about a dozen S&W knives. They range from the cutting horse beaters to high end stag stockman. Several are the small switchblades. With the exception of the cutting horse line, the rest of them are top quality. Although they aren't spyderco's, but then again not many are better than the spyder...

all i can say is that every time someone buys a powerglide, a gargoyle emerges from the shadows and strangles someone. that has to be the sorriest excuse for a knife ever. i often play around with it before i go out knife shopping to remind myself not to buy blindly again.

Sharpened a S&W HRT(?) Warncliffe FB and it was decent. 440C steel, nothing wrong there and the ergos were good. I liked the knife but the sheath was terrible. You needed a screw driver to get the knife out. No experience with the folders. Let us know how it is when you get it. Take Care!!!

I also had a few S&W. Neat made and pretty reliable, but too heavy for my taste (always preffered a FRN Delica to a Chinook). The interesting thing is they were all manufactured in Romania, at a weaponry factory that also uses to make some **** good AK-47s . There are both fixed and folders (no switchblades as far as I'm aware of). I couldn't find any of them in the S&W offer. On the boxes, near the S&W logo it sais "A Bangor Punta Company" - whatever this means.

Bangor Punta Company owned S&W for a while. S&W has changed hands several times since those days.

I've thought about that one myself, but in the satin model. It's designed by Daryl Ralph, thus the similar look to the Camillus EDC. It has 410 SS handles w/frame lock, and uses 440C steel. A great deal for about $25.00, but the reason it cost that much is because it's made in China, which is a big downer! Not long ago I got their stag Sowbelley, and even though it's made over their the quality is comparible on my sample to the middle of the road Cases! This knife also has very well heat treated 6A blades, which I like alot as well. It's just so hard to by another made in China knife, even it they are great for the $$! RKBA!

Aloha Allan2112!

I got the CE clip pointed one instead, and it arrived the other day.

The knife is pretty well built and that Camo pattern just did it for me! The lock up is SOLID(NOW that is...read on!) and I wasn't expecting it to be a frame lock. Man, I feel like a wimp because I got a blister on my thumb opening and closing it! Couldn't believe it! LOL!

The blade was VERY sharp, but the SE portion is different...ya know the smaller teeth that follow the large arch? They're like "V's" on the S&W. It didn't do too well on cardboard, but the PE portion glided right through it!

I have yet to see how well the Ti Coat holds up, but it is pretty cool. All the guys at my facility liked it! (BTW-don't worry Jim, it was in the parking lot!)

All in all, this knife is pretty sturdy. Oh yeah, the clip has a kinda sharp point on it that I noticed while giving it an 85% thrust into a piece of plywood! Also, the knife is rather smooth, so manipulations were kinda slickery at times. The knife has a thin feel to it, like the SS Cricket, and the handle slots afford a good grip under normal use. And what the heck, this knife will see USE as I stated, I am kinda curious about this Ti coat.

God bless all!

All in all, this knife is okay...tolerances were VERY close as my knife wouldn't lock in the open position, but after a drop of Militech1 and some openings, it locks up solid now.

Thanks for the heads up, Concord Bob. Always wondered what's with the Bangor Punta thing written on the boxes

Thank the Almighty the Bangor Punta years are gone for ever! They were the owners from about 68 or 69 until the late 80's.
