A good Spyderco knive

#1

Post by blyons »

I am looking to purchase a knife from spyderco and was hoping for sugestions, it would preferably be a lockback with half serrated and half plain edge. The only thing i need is an idea.

Welcome!
How about a Native II? Arguably one of the best bladesteels currently available, great ergos, good price.
If you hadn't asked for CE I would have said Calypso Jr., but I can't really see that serrated.
Also a Delica would be a good choice....
At a bigger budget: Military or Para, but both not Lockbacks.
Ahhh, so many to choose from....

Welcome to the Spyderco Forum. Would you like a bigger or smaller knife?
Speaking for my part, I can't find words enough to praise the Delica - Lightweight, good steel, small enough not to raise eyebrows yet big enough to cope most your cutting chores.

Another vote for the Delica...

Well as most have said, the Delica and Endura are good choices, and both are available with either FRN (ambidexterous clip) or stainless handles (RH only clip). In FRN the Native III is another great choice, with perhaps the best ergonomics of any Spyderco and an ambi clip. If you're right handed, the Pro-Grip is another possibility, the molded plastic clip reduces it's appeal to those of us who are left handed. If you like a large knife, the Police is another possible choice, RH only clip. Finally, if you're willing to do a bit of hunting around, the discontiued C38 Jess Horn Lightweight is an excellent knife and a great choice if your workplace is infested with the terminally timid.

I think the Delica is the best entry-model spyder. Lots of choices in materials, serrated, plain, 50/50, handle colors (with careful shopping) and trainers too.

The Delica is a fine choice. In the case of a 50/50 edge, though, I would tend to agree with Jeff that the Endura is a little better suited because of the longer blade. I always feel like 3 inch or smaller blades are a bit tight to really make the best use of a combo edge.

The Endura will definitely scare sheeple, though, so if that's a factor than it might not be for you...

What would be a good sharpener since it has both the plain edge and the serrated edge.

No Question: Spyderco Sharpmaker.
I would start counting the number of votes you are going to get on this one

I would suggest a plain edged Delica - and a Spyderco Sharpmaker.
You will be able to keep your Delica shave-sharp and you will find that you don't need serrations.

The limited run of Gray Goddards would be my choice.
IMHO the blade is better, or at least the tip is stronger, than the Endura. Another plus with the Goddard is that you now have a "collectable" Spyderco to boot!
