The MILITARY...No offense but...

#1

Post by DAYWALKER »

Aloha all,

Awaiting the arrival of my Military. I'm getting it from a "spoiled rich kid" who is also a Forumite! (Just kidding you know who!) I was just wondering though, and NO offense to you present Mili owners but...

What is it that this Mili can do better than my Renegade? Or a G10 Police?

I will find out soon, why the Mili has such a HUGE following...but in the meantime, to quote a dear friend of ours...

"What say the arguers"?

God will put you over...if you let Him! John 14: 13,14...try it, it WORKS!

Howzit rycen and JSmith!

Yes, I'll just have to find out on my own, eh? Hmmmmmm...

zeus: Okay, there are more "features" than a Renegade OR Police...But still, these all have ample amount of blade, G10 handles...

The S30V, I'll have to test, but the liner is an irritant should I go southpaw. thumb serrations i like, as well as the flat grind. but wasn't the G10 Police flat ground? (At least some of them were, right?)

In the end, G10, Sharp blade w/ enough length. The S30V may out do in the edge retention area, but other than that?

Ahhhh, I'll just do what rycen and JSmith said..."Try it". Mahalo zeus, the Mili does have a lotta features...

God bless you guys!

The way it feels in the hand is the biggest differance.
I also can use, open and close it left handed, not real easy to do but it can be done.

Aloha JSmith,

Yeah, I can do the southpaw thing w/ liners too but...

See, that was the whole reason for my post...I was handling my <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> renegade and wondered what can the Mili do that this can't? I handled a Mili a while back, but don't remember the feel as I was holding my renegade...

Hopefully it arrives tomorrow, IF USPS is on it...

Take care JSmith and God bless!

Two words the blade & grip. That wonderful full flat grind 4" blade, and that wonderful handle that will fit such a wide varity of hands. You shall soon see, my friend! Does Sal know how to design a knife or what! RKBA!

I don't have a Millie yet, therefore my input isn't of much value. I do like the overall lines and the nested liner. Also that it is full flat grinded.
So you are a leftie... interesting... <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The build quality on the last three Military models we've gotten have been the best there's been, and they're better made than the Renegade and the G10 Police were. Dunno what Spyderco is doing differently these days, but they're more precisely made this year than ever before.

I've never had one or handled, but they look really good to me, and I've been debating getting one. My issue with it is something I read on that knife review place that physics guy runs. I remember him saying the blade is too thin, so even modest prying might damage it. Surely he was exagerating, no offence if he's reading this. What do you folks say?

Daywalker,

All the differences mentioned are good points but Jeff's explanation works best for me. It's definitely a far different feel than the slim handled Police. The blade has more belly than the Police as well and I do believe it is a more robust blade than either the C07 or the Renegade. But try this with either or those "other" Spydies. Throw on a pair of leather duty or flight-gloves or better yet a pair of the thick leather maintenance gloves and try using the hole to open the blade. Even with arctic mittens the Millie feels secure and is easier to open - it's a function of the grippy G-10, the ergos of the handle with a deeper opener cut-out, and the larger opening hole.

The Military is a better all around hard user than almost any Spydie with the Chinook, and Lil'Temperance being the closest competiters. If you prefer large Spydies, you will soon be a convert to the Military and will be thirsting after your own Paramilitary.

Stay safe! Stay sharp!

The military is an incredibly satisfying knife to use. While I normally EDC an SE dodo and PE Para-Military, when I come home I swap for the military. And it is what I carry on weekends. It cuts like crazy, is big yet light and easy to hold, it kind of melds right into my hand. And nothing beats the satisfying click of the lock.

aaaah! The Military.. Got belly, excellent blade geometry, cuts like a bat out of **** and easy to maintain! My all-time favourite knife! It was also the Spyderco Forums's first forum knife! Befitting of its contribution to all whose life depended on it in the field.. <img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="spyder.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I forgot to say anything about the ease of sharpening.Something about the edge profile makes it very easy to get a VERY sharp edge on it quickly.

Hi Daywalker,

I havent handled a millie or owned one (as yet) but here's my 2 bits anyway.

The best part, i gather, is the cutting ability andthe ease of sharpening a PE.

Its simplicity of design is a classic example of how form and function gel to produce a unique user experience.

Apart from that i feel it has more "presence" than most other folders.

eh...hope that helps...
Kaizer.

EDIT: "It's" typo.

A door half open is a door half closed. But a knife half open is a knife fully closed.
