Rapid Deployment...
Rapid Deployment...
I don't know how much some of you all are into quickly opening some of the spydie folders you have like I am...but I am always fascinated with learning the quickest way to open up any type of knife, safely of course. However, I thought I would share with those of you who may not know the quick way to open up a Lil' Temperance or even as I've found out more recently a Para-military. If you hold the knife firmly in one hand and thrust arm in a forward down motion...sorta like an 'Atlanta Braves' tomahawk chop from about waist level the blade will pull itself out into a locked position. Thought that would be fun to share...I told Jeff a slower way on the Lil' Temperance...but only had just found out recently this works well for both. I think I bet my time on the dodo with the rollin' ball lock. Anyhow, let me know if you all know some fun, quick, and safe ways to release your knife into an open and locked position. I know that a Delica is a very similiar flick to a DoDo. And most of the FRN type Natives, as well as, the Crickets you can hold them by the blade to flick open and locked. Well, let me know..thanks!

This may sound odd, but for me the fastest way to deploy a Spydie is the classic finger method. My Delica pops out like an auto

I'll agree the finder method is pretty fast with a little practice. I liked to hold the knife in my hand tip up and jerk it down quick enough for the blade to open and lock but it's never as safe or quick as the good old thumb technique. Anyways kudzu74, thanks for sharing, I'll try that to see how it works.

Take a military and hold in your hand, put your pointer finger in the hole and just flick it forward. Safe cause it will fly away from you if not done properly and FAST. I had a guy think I had an auto one time cause it was so fast. After I showed him hw still thought it was something automatic in the knife. Go figure. Don't have my camera program on my new computer so I can't take a pic of how to do it. Take Care
Oh and the quickest way to open the Dodo for me is the drop.
"everything else is just a jeep"

Aloha kudzu74!
I am w/ Jimmy_Dean and Alexandru the Great. It took a LOT of practice for me to do it the "conventional" way, but I try to keep things as simple as possible.
Tip downs, I do the pinch hole flick handle into hand opening,i.e. Police, SS Calypso Jr.
OR, I will rig my Endura for southpaw carry, but carry it in right pocket. Upon draw, inertia drop right into an ice pick grip.
I NEVER flick the blade in a sideways motion to get it open. For some reason, a lotta guys at my facility like doing this, but their knives rarely open on the first "flick", and their knives sometimes end up flying outta their hands!
The ABSOLUTELY fastest opening knife I had was the Gerber EZ Out using the Police method. BUT, I managed to make the lock fail on the Gerber, so it is now a dulled trainer. Too bad...they are pretty decent and expendable knives, but my fingers are NOT expendable.][
God bless!
God will put you over...if you let Him! John 14: 13,14...try it, it WORKS!

On my lil Temp (and it seems to only be on my LT) I can get it up and running very quickly with my index finger.
As soon as the knife clears my pocket. I flick my index finger forward along the hole and bring the knife up. Opens VERY quickly.
Oh, and don't forget the old zip-tie-through-the-hole (to help you identify which knife is yours, of course...)

I'm not sure the name of this method, and I know I'm not the only one who does it, but for me, the fastest way to draw a tip down knife (in this case, my Harpy), is to place my thumb and forefinger over the Spyderhole, then pull up and back. I guess it's kinda like an inertial drop method, but I don't actually have to *drop* the handle; the clip's tension is enough to pop the blade open for me.

Does any body else here needs to flick the wrist when they thumb open the blade? When training with my knife, I came to realize that I can be pretty fast with the right hand(I'm right-handed btw) but when I do, what seems to me to be the same thing with the left hand, I frequently run out of thumb and the blade stays half open if I don't give it the extra momentum with the wrist during the motion. Any comments/suggestions?
