Greetings,

Having just purchased the wonderful Spyderco Civilian I am in need of a rubber/plastic training version. Can anyone direct me to them?

Thanks,

Hi Gonzo. Welcome to the Spyderco forum. I would check with James Keating. I believe he has resource for several variations and he's produced a video specifically on the Civilian.

Sal,

Thanks for the suggestion. While I was able to purchase a video on handling the Civilian, I was told that a training knife was not available because of a patent infringement against ASP of Red Gun fame. So, I'm still looking, as I can not seem to contact ASP to see if they have any trainers available.

Gonzo.

I am not aware of any patent infringement potential. Spyderco owns the patents on the Civilian. We make working red trainers for Endura now with Delica, Gunting and Chinook coming in the future.

James Keating is Combat Technologies. telephone # 541-938-2175. If anyone can steer you to a Civilian trainer, James' guys can.

Just a matter of curiosity Sal, was the Civillian introduced with a training video as a package?

The Comtech "Civilian" video was made not long after the knife itself came out. It was an early tactical type knife (before things took off like they are now), being so unique it offered applications within the less than lethal zone that many knives simply cannot. The hook beak makes the Civilian operate differently than other knives in felt pressures and effects. Focusing upon those types of insights the tape went on to show various close quarter applications. The tape is now considered a classic of the genre. Soon another tape from Comtech will be made, this tape will focus upon the Spyderco Chinook in it's role as utility knife, hunting companion and personal defense tool.

Hello All, I'm glad to be a part of this great forum.

I make wood trainers for most all knives.

Over the past 10 years I have made more "civilian" trainers than any other model.

Probably because we (Comtech) offer a training video for the civilian.

I use only exotic hardwood, and I have all these woods in stock. Ebony, Cocabola, Blood wood, Zebra wood, Lignum Vite, Rose wood, Bubinga, Zircote, Cumbaru, Purple Heart, and a few others.

Turnaround time is usually under 2 weeks.

Any one interested in exotic wood trainers should e-mail me @.

Hi Robert. Welcome to the Spyderco forum and thanx for the info.

I have one of Roberts hardwood Civilians for several years and have been very pleased with it.
