Destroy your Karambit??? What sort of notification did they give you? Could you not have sent it back to the sender for a refund????

If you want to pay out the *ss for it, there's always UPS and Fedex...

DESTROYED IT? That's ridiculous! It's a knife, people, not a rabid pit bull roaming the streets and killing children!!

Hmmm...Do they x-ray all incoming packages?

Would it be possible to have an individual mail it to you and "disguise" the contents?

In other words, was the package sent to you directly from a knife/weapons dealer that raised eyebrows, or is EVERY package inspected, regardless of where it came from?

edited to express more outrage

Try having the sender list a knife as a "hand tool" on the customs form. Of the 20 or so knives I have had come across the border - all sent privately, not by a retialer - none have been opened. Only one have I had to pay anything for.

I imagine the only real way to get around this problem is to buy from a Canadian retailer....that way they are taking a chance getting things across the border.

Sorry to hear about the knife loss,
Thom

Thom good suggestion on the "hand tool" all my packages are marked that. Never had a problem( knock on wood). I got my Emerson Karambit from S&R when their first shipment arrived. Let them deal with it, as in the retailer, we pay them enough so that is the bonus for us Canucks Again no letter of intent to what they were going to do???

Yeah, they decided to destroy mine, too. Thankfully it was just a POS Gil Hibben Claw (I thought it looked cool).

What pisses me off infinitely more is that they've probably impounded my Kershaw Talon on account of being a "flick" knife. Granted, I have no evidence to back that up, other than the fact that I bought it on May 17, and it has yet to arrive here, even though I paid for expedited shipping.

Aloha Nicky,

Boy, I remember having conversations with an inmate from canada and thought it would be a cool place to live...Not anymore though!

I mean, it may be a great place, but if SOME of the Border Agents are total @$$3$ and be breaking my blades IF I lived there, then forget it.

And I used to gripe about shipping to HI? Not no more!

Sorry to hear about your loss bro!

God will put you over...if you let Him! John 14: 13,14...try it, it WORKS!

Thanks for your reply!

The first thing to know is that Fedex and UPS don't protect us from border's guys.

The second thing to know is that I've done every thing they wanted me to do. (ex: writing 3 letter, providing bills and things)

I've received a letter saying that they finally take a decision and they decided to destroy it as a brass knuckle.

The third thing to know is that almost anything with a ring can be qualify as a brass knuckle if it doesn't look like the perfect hand tool.

Finally the fourth thing to know is that I wish their brainless jobs will one day make them realise how useless they are.

Nicky,

I am very sorry to hear of your lost knife...I am in the process of losing an Al Mar SERE 2000 to them at the moment myself. That is, unless I can find a way to ship it back to the sender.

In any case, thanks for your insight...hopefully it will provide some future help for us Canucks importing blades in the future.

Best wishes, Jeff/1911.

Since I'm tired to hear about costums these days, I'll give you a piece of advise I'm not supposed to give you. If you order a knife in the US, have it sent to someone you know and trust in the US. Then ask this person to take the knife, wrap it in aluminium foil, and then pack it in a box that's not written KNIFE FROM SPYDERCO on the top. The foil will block then image when they scan it and most won't take the time to open a box for the fun of it.

As far as I know, it's the safest way to do it. You can even order Spyderflys like that and it shouldn't be a problem. Hope it helps and you get over it soon.

Hope this helps

It may have work a couple of years before but now with the new US anti-terrorist policy impose to Canadian border it won’t work.

I've already thought about that method but it doesn't work at all because if they didn't get a clean image on scan, they MUST open it, and trust me on that, they do it. In fact, if they don't they can lose their job so they open every thing suspect.

I've also ear some rumours that say that if you’re frequently orders stuff from outside the Canada, all your orders can be open when they cross borders.

I'm not sure about that one but I know that my last 5 orders all got open by them.

Now we are talking about private life respect!

Nicky,

I suspect that you are correct, as all of my recent shipments have been opened too...where they used to hardly ever get opened before.

Sorry to hear about your troubles Couldn't be possible to send the knife back instead of destroying it?

Jeff and nicky, if you call canada customs they can tell you about a "bonded courier" for sending the knife back to the shipper...more expensive than regular mail but worth it for a more expensive knife.

I know for a fact that they DON'T open or examoine every package, but it's hard to get a retailer to mark the package appropriately.

Apparently cheaper-shipping gets through easier than more expensive shipping, so you have to wait longer, but are more likely to get it.

I Lost a Spydercard recently (sending it back would have cost as much as another) but Vampyrewolf sent me 1 of his...THANKS, man!

I'm canadian and I've used these guys before for a "controversial" item and I would again...

http://www.knifezilla.com/

They apparently "specialize" in shipments to canada.

I sent them an email and asked and they said they would have the Spyderfly in a month or so.

my thanx...death-bringah

Unfortunately, the laws here are a bit vague. So, it is our choice to try to ship possible problem knives into Canada. No dealers in Canada have any Karambits????
Trying to ship auto's/bali's...takin a chance...is it worth it, well thats each persons decision.
Sorry to hear about all the headaches you guys have been having Take Care!!!
