A rock sounds logical to me too.

If not a rock then it would be a stick.

If not a stick, it would be fesces.

Maybe their teeth?

Man's first and foremost weapon is his evolved (?) brain and his ability to turn pastoral natural objects into weapons of destruction - mass or singular - to survive and defeat those better naturally armed.

Java believes (in his strangely caffeinated view) that it all began in a Three Stoogian slapstick frenzy with a Nyuk! Nyuk! Eye poke where some <i>australo-pithacean</i> Moe left a fingernail imbedded in some Curlyan Neanderthal optical orb. "Ow! That hoits! Ya knucklehead!" and thus began our rush to inflict pain and suffering in an ever increasingly grander scale on all that fell under our purvey. 'At's what separates us from the "lesser" animals after all - our ability to destroy ourselves or anything God created because it's there.

But that's just my opinion and I am right. Anyone want to challenge me, my official Martian Arms Manufacturing Company LTD. Inc. Illudium PU-36 Explosive Space Modulator, and personal ACME Disintegration Pistol???? I dares ya!!!

The subject says man's first weapon; the post says man's first tool. I'm sure they were two different things. Which one are you asking?

Either way, though, I'd love to know how your doctor knows. I'm pretty sure that whatever it was, it predates records.

Finger nails are natural and can't be called a tool.I would have to be something that is not apart of the body.At one time it was belived the the only animal to use a tool was man but it has now been shown that chimps use skicks and clubs as weapons and to get food.

We may have been using tools before we evolved into homo sapiens. there is evidence of another speicies making/wearing ornaments which shows abstract thinking and tool use. If this is the case it could be argued that whatever tools were used were available to HS from the start - sort of a chicken and egg scenario.

Nails is a bit of a non answer as first tool and why not teeth?

First weapon? tooth, claw, opposable thumb, brain or teamwork (communication)?

Man's first tool was probably a stick or a rock. No way no know probably.

Man's first manufactured tool was most likley the knife. Manufacturing tools is what differentiates us from the rest of the animal kingdom.

Most medical doctors are not archaeologists or anthropologists, so I guess she thought that up herself or heard someone else say it

Java,

Took some research in my old LPs, but it's Herb Albert's TIJUANA BRASS.<img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Nice band though. And watch it with those "short range" grenade rocket launchers.<img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

And BTW, the beaner pic on the other thread still doesn't get it bro.
