almar2,
No experience with the 2000. I believe that the majority or your answers here will be co. Mine are Ti Salsa at work and Paramilitary/G10 Native for the weekends.
ALSO WHEN YOU TYPEIN CAPS IT MAKES READING YOUR POST MORE DIFFUCULT AND I FEEL THAT I MAY NOT INTERPRET YOUR THOUGHTS CORRECTLY. Please use lower case like your sig.
Chris
Be Excellent to each other.

The SERE is nice.I handled one at the same time I was first looking at the Military.I thought the Military edged it out.The Military is IMO just as good and much more comfortable to carry.

hi,ok i got the point,i hited the capslock!,
the AL-MAR 2000 was the first one that was made for survival evasion resistance escape.
S.E.R.E!,i didnt know (r.i.p)AL,helped spyderco to find in japan a way to enter this world,i agree if i lost my al-mar i´ll kill myself(kidding).then i know in tactical world a knife that has a litle weight is not so recomended,i dont know why,i guess is for striking (?????)the target.here in mexico,my friend owns a military surplus kind of shop, and to get a spyderco is easer than an al-mar.in a case like this medic that his knife was injured (check this issue here!)i must to say i´ll use any knife ,just that situation ask for.i must say to the boss from spyderco and to all, that i admire the siplicity and sharp efectivenes from spyderco knives.some say in a fight (defensive)a lighter blade is more good.well if i crash a ferrari testarosa,i´ll cry for 2 years, but if i crash a ford,i´ll say ´´**** **** ****´´ pay the insurance, and go sleep.any way i liked this tanto blades couse the tip is very strong, some friend said that tanto is made for wood carving(originaly),each day i clean the blade for the knife i carry, and lubricate it.(al-mar needs less lubricant and less often, any way,
spyderco are ok.AL-MAR are ok.some one said
for what you want the knife for?,to use ,or to be a decoration, like ´´dont touch me knife!.usualy i never show my blade, only to people i trust.i just tought that...........
´´WE SHOULD TAKE CARE FOR THE KNIFES AS WE CARE ABOUT OUR SALAMI´S.......´´
GOT IT? (OR ASK YOUR LOVE PARTNER TO DO SO)
(laugh!!!)WELL,MY GIRLFRIEND DIDNT HOLD YET MY..............KNIFE!,HEEEEEEEEEEEEY!
BESIDE THAT ,TOMORROW I´LL BE 36,HOW ABOUT A KNIFE FOR EACH ONE OF YA???
(JUST KIDDING!).

The question is: Al Mar Sere 2000 is top line folder knife of Al Mar. In my opinionTo compare is more adapt the Military, or Chinook II, ATR, Lil Temperance, not the Endura, an medium level of Spyderco.
I have 1 Al Mar Sere 2000, 1 Al Mar Nomad, 1 Al Mar SLB, 20 Spyderco. The Al Mar knives are very robust, but Spyderco is more more creative and more options.

I know this may all sound like a commercial to a new forum member (welcome BTW)
I have owned several S2K knives and while they are VERY well made. 2 things I absolutely hated about em was the thumbstud was shaped odd.
Something about the rounded ball on the short stud didn't appeal to me at all.
2nd probably worse IMO was the clip.....yeaaaaa I know it was meant for deep pocket concealment, the thing is.....gettin the dang thing outta that pocket quickly .

The SERE, or Survival, Evasion, Resistance, Escape knives from Al Mar were released in the 1980's or very early 1990's, well before the SERE 2000. I am not sure of the year I bought my SERE folder, but by 1991 it was regular daily carry knife, and I did not buy it as soon as the SERE line was released. (There were SERE fixed blades as well.) My SERE folder has a 4.5-inch blade, metal liners and bolsters, and micarta handle scales. Of course, it is heavy, but that is OK with me. I have always liked to carry at least one folder with some heft. My old SERE opens with a nail nick, so it is slower to deploy than modern folders, so I currently carry a Spyderco Gunting and a Strider AR.

Yo, AL!
Until you award that taco and fess up the answer to your previous query on Man's First Weapon, I suggest you carry both your Spyderco and .......uh....what was that other knife brand name again???
I actually carry a Sere and a Shrike from time to time. I like the fit and finish of both and the Shrike has one of the smoothest opening actions of any folder I have used. Lately, I've embarked on an Osprey hunt and have the SS, bone, MOP, black lip pearl, and abalone scaled one so far. They blend in well with the Spyderkeys and Buck Knights.
