Aloha Kali!

Hopefully, you managed to close it by now. Place right thumb on left side indent, right index and middle on left side.(Your fingers will find these in their own at the very base of the handle scales.)

"Push w/ thumb, "pull" with index and middle then make a GENTLE "throwing forward motion"...the blade should then fall into place.

You should have seen when I got my Meer...took it to work and opened it then "challenged" co -workers to close it. One of SGT's got a nice lil' cut as he obviously was forcing her shut! The cut wasn't funny,(Sorta) but the looks they all made trying to figure her out were!

Be careful!

Kali-

Sorry but that is funny!

Anyway you are now the proud owner of a fixed blade knife...ya sould have never opened it!

When they say push don't push down towards the other handle-more like slide it, like snaping your fingers.

good luck,

Its like the whole scale on one side is the lock back lever. The scale with out the clip will slide down to disengage the lock.

I took my Meerkat to work on several occasions, and everyone loved it!

The ones who had seen it before would gather around to snicker at the newbie trying to figure out how it closed. That knife is a real icebreaking piece.

The act of scissoring the scales, and slightly flicking to close the blade is a neat trick too -- You become a magician in front of your friends.

ARRGH- it's almost 8AM and since my Meerkat is by the PC I thought I'd give it another shot. uh oh. nothing. zip. zlich. Now, ( the neophyte says, nervously ) I'm supposed to do all of this blade handle squeezing and pushing/snapping of fingers motion magically flicking the blade towards me and have it "snick" in its case? Haven't figured it out yet.....keep snickering, Ken

kali -

Let's see if you can figure this out :

Take the MeerKat and put the base of it
( not the top where the blade pivots out,
but the base ) and find the indentations
on either side of the handle.

Find'em? Good.

Now, on the left side of the handle, place your thumb in the indentation ( or divot )
and on the right side your index in the
indentation ( divot ) to the front of the right handle, where the blade would go in
during closing. Draw the index towards yourself & push your thumb forward, like snapping your fingers.

Kind of complicated ; there's also that blue piece of paper in the box with the
"comic book" illustration that'll clarify.

Hi Kali

I had the same prob, its easy when you know how.
Ok look here: bbbbbbbhhhhhhhhh
The "b" are the blade and the "h" is the handle
----------------------F
now: bbbbbbbhhhhhhhh

You see where the "F" is on the backside top of the handle scale, push down there, you will feel the scale move down, this unlocks the blade.

People think that they must push the scale forward into the blade, what you need is to actually push down on it so that it swivels forward on a pivit like motion.

You will see the thumb indent on the scales at the rear, just hold the blade (on the spydie hole) with one hand using your thumb and forefinger, then take the handle with the other hand and use your thumb on the hand with the handle to carefully push that scale downward.

Its a brillaint concept, I actually really love the feel of this handle, far more than the volcano grip pattern.
It feels so good to hold.

Ive just quickly edited a pic of a meerkat (its rushed but itll show you the concept of what to push and where).

You will see the top pick with the arrow flowing down, this is where you need to apply pressure.
The image of the handle at the bottom has a red outline showing where the handle will shift too.

Hope this helps you out

Kali,

The Meerkat has frustrated many a semiconductor engineer at the mines where I work. No need to blush – it doesn’t show on the Dark Earth Mother anyway. Could have consulted Ganesha, the Remover of Obstacles, but looks like you have plenty of help here. Practice will make it easier but when you are flipping the 'Kat klosed, be careful to position your middle finger further back as its natural position of function places it in the path of the closing blade. The reverse-S will give you a particularly nasty nibble.

Don't feel bad at all about having trouble with the Meerkat...it took me so many tries...it would seem i would close it by accident and then one day i realized how to open it and when I got here to South Africa and handed Mancer the Meerkat he couldn't figure it out either till i showed him so don't feel bad

O.K., here are some photos of the way it looks when you release the lock.
It is quite strong.
Just apply pressure to the left scale as if rubbing your fingers to separate two pages of a book.
Hope this helps.

hint...
It is much easier for me to slide the handle scale to the side, which is the release, when I use my left hand even tho I am right-handed. When you do it right the blade falls easily into the closed position so keep fingers clear.
Have fun.

Aloha Kali!

Poor thing...Okay:

Hold the Meer in right hand, blade pointing up.

Right thumb on the Spyderbug.(Left side of handle)
Right index and middle fingers on the indents. (Right side of handle)

Now, "push" the bug away from you w/ thumb while pulling the index and middle fingers toward you.

The scales(Handle) should have "split".

with left hand, push GENTLY down on the blade to get it out of the way of the lock bar. Once you move it a bit, keep going.

Release finger/thumb pressure. Your Meer is now closed. Hopefully! LOL!

Keep us posted! Praying for ya!
