Personal Reflections on the Para Military and my pocket

#1

Post by badevilcow »

So Thursday I got my para military in plain edge. This is in every way an out standing edc knife. As my bank record shows, I have in a little over the last month, stocked up on a few of the 'golden colorado' high end folders available for good prices through various web pages. I got the chinook II in.. and this is an amazing, hard use folder.. but the weight, and the strange shape.. pretty much make it a self defense oriented knife, and a just 'it's cool as **** to look at and handle' folder.

sooo.. here i had the lil temp, dodo, chinook ii, old old fully serrated endura ats-55, progrip (another old one), and a delica (one of the first ones i got a few years ago) but still.. i felt like something in my spyderco life was missing.. well then came the military combo edge black DLC sv30.. holy bad cow.. this knife took care of every landscaping/foresting need i could ever imagine.. this knife will be in my pocket forever.. but now the para-military is here... this knife is the knife that opens mags in borders, opens mail, opens anything i need at lunch, destroys cardboard, whittles sticks, trims small buds from flowering shrubs and trees, does it all sharp as ****.. and when anything big comes around.. the black military comes CRACK!-ing out, and just saws through any thing.. box elder, OAK, chestnut.. man.. it just saws.. and leaves clean cuts, normally i steer away rom combo edges.. but the military has the perfect 50/50// belly to slice, tip to penetrate, serrations for hard core sawing.. impressed.. takes care of it ALL.. total only one you need survival knife..

Soo. hope you enjoyed my ramble for this saturday.. when in comes down to it, I think the military/para line is the flagship, and the best cutting of all the spydies.. the chinook ii will defend you from the evils of the world, and every other model are the skittles you know you love, but always eat last thanks spyderco

Well I have been searching this forum, blade fourms, knife forums.. not too much info about the Para Military so far.. must be because it's so new???

well being 24 and prone to such things.. was at a good saturday night party... and along the way someone messed up the uncorking of a Eco Domani red wine bottle.. and out comes my paramilitary and it just slices the cork out in perfect circle.. no bits in thewine at all.. everyone was very impressed.. another friend had out some kinda buck and way trying to open that STIFF plastic on new xbox s controllers... and again out comes the para and just 'like a hot knife thru butter' the plastic just flew to the ground.. everyone was impressed and wandered where i got such a great knife.. no comments of 'man thats a big blade' or such.. the buck was prob 4 inches.. i mean.. if i had whipped out the black military combo edge, i could have done the same.. but i think that woulda been a bit blade to whip out at a relaxed house party.. but the para once again just came into play in such wicked fashion. with that spyder on the blade it's got style.. very impressed I have always thought three inches is about right for edc.. the bigger blades are more 'at work' oriented or 'out on the app trail'.. but this para with it's flat ground blade just really does it.. intregal compression lock.. dual steel liners... g-10.. yeah okay.. well it[s off to find some more stuf to cut... i can't wait to read some of the pro's review of this knife when they get it... thank you

Now look what you've done! You made me want not only the black DLC Millie, but the Paramillie as well
OTOH, thanks for the review. Since I haven't heard any complaints regarding the Millie or the Paramillie in the couple of years I've been browsing the forums, perhaps they are of any good

Greetings,

Thank you for all the quick replys.. i have taken to heart many words you all have spilled on the quality of the entire military line.. thus i almost jumped outta my chair when i typed 'spyderco military + for sale" into Sherlock and there only 4 links down is a DLC combo edge..

Can anyone point me to a good review of the paramilitary? i cannot seem to find one.. or should i pretty much assume that everything good said about the full size military (ie. just pure cutting ability) apply to it's little brother? except maybe perfection is a little closer with the integral compression lock? a combo edge para would be really nice.. esp. one with DLC

Thanks in advance

I got mine and the only things I can find about it that I don't like is the bugered up pivit pin(would have been better if it used the same one as the military)and the weak dentent.
It has laser cut thumb lugs too,not a big issue but I like the milled ones better.
All in all I am happy with it.
