Off Topic...How do you spend your free time?

Hi People,

I listen to Western classical music and take photos of architecture, urbania and nature. I use a Nikon FM-10 and kodak 100 asa color film (35 milllimeter format).

I sure like to start with black and white photography but we have no and i mean *no* good labs that do b/w. Want to study the Zone system by Ansell adams. Any pointers?

As far as the music is concerned I'm a devout J.S.Bach fan and have had the good fortune to play his "Kontrapunktus" (Counterpoint) as first violin around 8 years ago. Difficult piece but awesome when it comes out as it is supposed to.

Thanks in advance.

Kaizer.

Have a great day.

Hi there,

When I do have some free time what I enjoy most is a good film. I'm a super-hardcore movie guy and I like to watch one I have in my collection every once in a while. The rest of the time, I like to stop a few hours and read a book, sharpen my knives and/or work a piece of wood. Lately, I've been practicing making sprung snares because I'll go hunting soon. Oh and yeah, occasionnal camping trips are part of my hobbies. Nice thread, it's gonna be fun to read.

Aloha!

Let's see...I read the Bible(God's Word), catch up on time w/ my family, draw,
run "simmunition" (airsoft) drills in the backyard, MBC,empty hand, and other weapons training, try to catch Mr. Ed and I Love Lucy or some extreme sports on TV, playing(?) my electric guitar, and of course, coming here!

God will put you over...if you let Him! Mark 11:23!

Hi, all!

In my spare time I enjoy making knives, reading and learning about history and playing around with pictures in Photoshop most.

Nice thread, Kaizer!

My hobbies include reading, the movies and playing Go. Go is THE Asian board game, in popularity comparable to western Chess, though Go is vastly more interesting and complex.
Also, it's not solved yet, meaning computers can't play Go worth s#%t, whereas chess has no challenges anymore <img src="tongue.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
I am underway to becoming a 2nd Dan player.
(interested in Go? just mail!)
Also, I'm working to get fit again so I won't collapse when I resume Karate training.(Shotokan green belt)

I work out every morning, golf when I can, play on the computer too much, shoot airguns and read a lot. Knives do take up a little time also.

As of now I have lots of free time. I was in a car accident so I spend my free time at physio/chiro/massage therapy. Getting better has been a real up hill climb. When I am resting I really enjoy this forum.
Before I was injured I enjoyed this forum<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> I will start biking and hiking//walking soon to help with recovery.
I have been meaning to get some more hobbies and have considered martial arts lots lately, just can't decide which style???
Also really like watching films. I have a large collection and really like film noire and Kubricks films.
Good thread, Take Care!!!

Kaizer!!

Cool!

Photography is great stuff, although, as you know, expensive! I've been shooting a lot of black and white as well, recently. I guess, the only tips I can think of is... practice!

If you have the space, I could suggest for you to built your own darkroom. Many DIY darkroom manuals can be found online or from amazon.com or something. It shouldn't be too hard to set up your own darkroom, really. The think that's going to get you is paying for an enlarger or a negative scanner... <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

My first SLR was a Nikon FM10. I carried that backpacking across western europe, through NYC, along the coasts of california, up mountains in colorado, down the grand canyon. Considering price, function, and brand name, the FM10 is probably the best camera I can think of. All I can say is, keep it with you at ALL times and travel as much as possible! Good luck. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Motorcycling (our current ride is an '93 FXLR Harley, that we bought new). I have been riding for 38 years.

But lets not forget collecting, goofing around with, and enjoying knives.

Not a lot of free time. I work away from home 3-4 days a week, but when I'm home I spend most of my time in my shop. I've been building and equipping a complete machine and mechanic shop for about five years. I'm just about finished but I just need a few more tools. I'm working on restoring a 1935 Indian Scout motorcycle and I'm trying to perfect a design for a wind generator.

What free time? <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> Used to read a book, play a game on the computer (FPS and RTS are my favorites), design a knife and take a trip now and then. Fortunately, the children provide a good substitute for all of these... yet, I still long them <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I go wheeling! I just got an Isuzu trooper from a friend that built it up a little, and it completly schools my old blazer. My blazer was even more highly modded with 35's VS 33's on the 'zuzu. Other than that, I love hiking, shooting, and sometimes I can combine all three. Drinking Is fun too, but that NEVER involves any of the the other three. That would be a good way to get lost, shot, or arrested. Again maybe all three.

Well, between the naps and the feeding, I like to run outside and chase the neighborhood cats. Every now and then Halley, the sexy spaniel next-door, is out in the yard. We’ll meet over by the hole in the fence and play the old bark and sniff game. If Big J is up sometimes he’ll bring my things so we can play. I prefer the "Holey-Roller" but most anything will do – two-by-fours, tennis balls, baseballs – it’s all good. On lazy days like today when we don’t have those tropical humid scorchers, I’ll just set with my ears down basking in the morning rays.

Well I'll be... And you think you know a guy java!
Just goes to show, on the Internet nobody knows you're a dog <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Reading, fishing, cooking good stick-to-your-ribs food, not as much photography as I'd like and long walks for me.

<b>BAD DOG!!!!</b> Drop the mouse and pad away from the keyboard! Go get in the Box!!

Oh man! I go away for a couple of days and Java the Mutt is out there on the web messing up my good(?) name. E-mail In-Box is full of canine spam – offers for tail enlargement, Lassielis HCl for feral erectile dysfunction problems, and puppie porn pictures a’plenty.

Well, I guess I’m going to spend <b>MY</b> free time erasing the pictures off the hard drive, cleaning up the internet history for the past 3-days, and pickin’ up the puppy treats Java the Mutt used to lure the neighborhood whelps with.... and the doggie porn! <b><i>Panthouse, Playwithmeboy, Ouoof!</b></i> - and various other rags showing dog-on-dog, dog-on-cat, and dogone-gross action! Great Googly-Moogly! If Mrs Java sees these, I’ll be recommitted!

(And to think, all I wanted to do was spend my time bicycling, running, reading, playing with sharp objects, SCUBA diving, woodworking, and figuring out my digital camera.) Dang dog! Stay in the Box!.....and no coffee for you for the next week!
