What's *better*, the Centofante 3, the Endura...

TTC: the Police, the Native or the Delica?

The Centofante looks like a really good deal compared to the others; most places are selling it pretty cheap, even though it looks like a really decent knife. Is there any reason for that?

Aloha Saint!

Ahhhh, Delica for me. Second being the Endura, then Native(III).

I have heard HERE that the Centofante doesn't have enough "kick" to close safely one handed. But i dunno, I can close my Cold Steel voyager and Gunsite one handed, and there ain't much kick on theirs. Also, The cutting edge has no guard of any kind on the handle,(in the event your fingers slip forward) but neither does my Walker or Toad. This point doesn't concern me, but something you may wanna look into.

As for the prices, hey, I ain't gonna argue a Cheap NIB Spyder! Take care!

I too was surprised by the lack of kick(choil, whatever) on my Cento III. You just gotta be careful with it.

As for what's better,it all depends on what you're going to use it for and how they fit your hands. For the models you list,I'd personally go w/the Native I. S30v blade for under $50 is a heck of a deal. It's also Spyderco's smoothest lockback. Good ergos, nice blade shape, fully ambi, and slim.

Indeed, the Native is the best in materials and manufacturing. Unfortunately, my Native never fit my hand as it as supposed to
So I stick to the Delica. It's been the perfect EDC for me for a couple of years now.
As for the Centofante, I have an earlier model (Vesuvius, with blue shell inlay and compression lock). It is nice, it has an open construction, even the compression lock works great (there were complaints about it, that's why they put that front lock), but not quite my style. But hey, I don't carry it, my wife does from time to time

The Saint -

I like the Centofante II ( other than
it should've been offered in CE at least )
Check out my "Fred Perrin" thread, Saint.

That former French army commando did a
suave job of a review on the Native ; I'd
have to go with him on the Native for EDC -
overall durable & ergonomic.

It's then a question of the Native or Native III ( i.e. solid steel -or- wire
clip ) which I'd say's a personal preferance. Another thing is the Native
in SS - great for engraving.

The Delica's also a good choice.

IMHO, of that lot, the Native and Native III offer the best "bang for the buck" Good steel, fantastic ergos, reasonable price.

The Police, at least in the all stainless version, is too heavy for my tastes, plus the over 4" blade makes it illegal to carry in some places. The carbon fiber version eliminates the weight issue, but not the size issue, and ups the price considerably.

The stainless Endura, while below 4" also suffers in my eyes from excessive weight. The FRN model is far better in this regard but I prefer shorter blades in FRN knives as they allow the blade to exert less leverage on the handle from a side load. For that reason I would rate it below the Delica and Natives.

The stainless Delica would not be a bad choice, in fact in an all stainless knife I might even rank it over the Native II because of the weight. But in FRN versions the handle ergos, thumb grooves, and deep choil put the Natives far ahead of it for me.

The Centofante III, while an interesting design, suffers, in my opinion, from a very thin blade (2mm) compared with the others (3mm). This is probably the main reason for the attractive price. While the blade would almost certainly be sufficiently strong for any use I may put one to, this still pushes my paranoia button. It also seems to share the pointy shaped hump that I found annoying on the Vesuvius (somebody tell me I'm wrong and that they took the sharp edge off this). The fact that its clip is right hand only also limits my enthusiasm for it, as does the smooth FRN handle. The one great virtue of most Spyderco FRN handles is that the texture hides all those little scratches and scuffs that stand out like sore thumbs on stainless, micarta, carbon fiber, and almite handles.

Aloha!

Hey saint, NOTHING's wrong w/ SS handles. It's just that I found a bit too many hairline scratches on the handle of my PLAINEDGE Harpy than I thought I had...****.
