Slipjoint is the name of the lock. Just like on a regular SAK, if I am correct.

Actually, it doesn't lock which is why one of Spyderco's knifemakers coined the pen-knife a "reject", which is what Spyderco's that don't lock are usually called <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Yes, you're right, literally it doesn't lock.

The pen-knife might be my next Spydie-purchase.

Sal on the 4th of April on BritishBlades

<I>-----------------
Hi Bagman. I believe we have all of the details worked out and we're beginning to cut steel. Clip tooling is usually 6 - 7 weeks.

My original plan for April will not work. I have a bad habit of under-estimating production times

The ParaMilitary is now shipping. Ronin will be shipping next next
May is a good possibility though. Probably be June shipping to UK.

We're going to engrave the "design team" pieces on the spine of the back spacer/spring.

First run is scheduled for 750 pcs.

Thanx for the interest & support (& patience).

sal

Yes and no.

When throwing around ideas we asked for something that was easy to open one handed, but was a lot harder (but not impossible) to close one handed, and didn't lock for legal reasons.

Apparently Sal believes he has cracked it, and the couple people who have seen it describe it as like a slipjoint, but different. Unfortunately those fortunate few were asked to keep the mechanism a secret, and wouldn't you know they are actually keeping their word <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0> <img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

The lock is just a regular slipjoint. Like a Laguiole, SAK etc. The one I handled openened and closed fairly easy. About the same as my small (Forge de) Laguiole, but much lighter then my Rhodanien. The smart part (which everybody can see in the picture) is the choil which prevents it from closing on your fingers when you're working with the knife.
The 'we cannot tell' part is something else. <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Ted

ps. I can be bribed, I don't have a ParaMilitary yet <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0><img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

I've just noticed the clip detail.

The wire clip loops over the screw toward the rear and bac under toward the front for extreme low profile carry - very politically correct.

It would be great to have a second (Dodo style - simply scooping under the screw toward the rear) clip included with the knife for those who prefer easier access. The wire clips seem pretty economical, so I don't see that it would add to the price too much - who's with me?
