Chris,
The entire knife is coated, screws, clip and knife. The only uncoated area is where the knife blade pivots. These knives could not be taken apart (other than clip & screws) to coat each piece individually. Thus, they were coated intact (blade open) so to speak.

The coating results are excellent. It is the same company that does Buck, Gerber, Timberline, etc. In fact we were the ones that got them into coating knives.

The only reason we quit was the Spyderco lock spring is fragile to heat. The coating process is in a heated vacuum environment. We were experiencing failures with the lock spring bar. It would break or become too weak.

Buck Knives proved that the coating provides for a sharper edge and better edge retention.

We guarantee the original owner's lifetime satisfaction. If for any reason the knife fails we will make a full refund or replace. However, I do not think we'll have any replacements so a full refund would be in order. The idea being we don't want any owner to feel he/she is buying a questionable product.

A funny story:
We had a Border Patrol Agent that was so proud of his gold Police model he would throw it on the ground, kick it around and show off the fact the coated knife wasn't harmed. I did not hear from him for a long time and wondered why. Then another Agent confessed that the kicker finally scratched his knife when he stuck his foot on the grounded knife and twisted it around. What he didn't know was the gravel was from very hard flint type rocks. And yes, he finally messed the knife up.

The moral of the story is "nothing is perfect"!

Hello John,
we may still do business yet.<img src="smile.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
Just spoke to a good friend and knife nut who would like to jump in the boat for a deal.
The kicker: his girlfriend's sister is in New York until March!
Funny how things work out, eh? <img src="wink.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>
As soon as we have cleared the specifics with her, you will receive our order.
Again, thanks everybody and take care!
