Butchering a Delica

#1

Post by chux »

I'm thinking of trying a bit of modding. Does anyone have a picture of a waved Delica? Just thinking it may be a good idea to have a guide so I don't lop off too much metal.

Chux, you might want to check this thread over on BladeForums, one of the members there who posted in it uses what I believe is a waved Delica as his avatar. The pic may be of some help, and if you search through his posts, there may be more info on it and/or pics of it in an earlier one.

Man, that's a weird-looking spydie! I won't challenge as to why the wave for rapid-deployment but judging by the look of the avatar, the spine on the knife was grounded off quite a bit.. How would a Delica look like with its round-hole retained and a waved feature?

Hi Chux,
I can send you detailed pics on how I do it if you'd like.
With the Delica or Endura I always lower the blade spine about 20 deg.
This keeps if from (jumping) the pocket lip which it will do w/o the spine lowered.
I'll see what pics I have saved on a disk and mail you, and will be more than happy to answer any questions you may have. Ron

The Delica has now been operated upon by people more skilled at such things than myself. It works much better than expected and has started some conversations already. I'll try and post pics. Sadly, it will now have to be retired from EDC as LEOs will probably take a very dim view of it, not that they would be too pleased anyway .

Now if that SE Dodo would turn up to replace it :/

Hello Chux

If you ever are asked to explain the wave, you could always tell them it is a bottle opener!

It was done by a cutler friend of mine. Fortunately he didn't use his own equipment as doing it finished off four engineers files. VG-10 is certainly tough.

Here's my waved native. It's not a delica, but you get the idea.

It retains the hole.

I've had it for about two months now and it' works quite well, IMO. A bit harsher on the pockets than the emerson wave, but having a lockback is well worth it.

Hope this helps.

midget, nice job.Keeps the integrity of the hole.My buddy did one like that.

Deacon, the avitar on BF is a Matriarch.

BargainBlades, yes it can be used for a bottle opener but much fine tuning is needed to ensure opening several different brands.

By the way sc_rebel does a fine job and is a pleasure to deal with.tom.
