I'm finally getting around to buying a good watch. I have a Fossil around here that needs about $100 in repairs(new faceplate and new second hand)...

Just going to buy a new watch, been over a year since I wore a watch last(late july 02)... Anyone have a watch they want to sell/trade or can give me suggestions on a "good" watch for around the 100cad mark?

VW,

Wenger (Swiss) makes some pretty incredible watches. They can be had for peanuts on Ebay.

@vampyrewolf

If you like Casio G-Shocks, check this one:

http://www.casio.com/index.cfm?fuseacti ... 900DA%2D8V

I have it for some months now and it's really neat. Atomic AND solar watch. The solar cell recharges a battery that lasts for ~6 months without any further sunlight.

VW-

It is a good idea to check out e-bay for watches...

I agree that a wenger is very good, also check out the timex expedition watches. They have a lot of features for little money. 20 bucks and less....they have the date, alarm, and a back light or indiglo as they call it. You can beat em' up and they keep running.

so let us know what ya get,

Seiko 5, military.

Automatic movement, RUGGED 7s26 movement. Can be had off ebay for anywhere between 40.00-60.00. Highly, highly recommended.

VW,

Get over your dislike for "plastic" watches and get yourself a Casio G-Shock or Protrek Tough Solar. I have a GW-300A-1V Tough Solar G-Shock and it's an excellent watch. I also have a Casio Protrek Triple-Sensor Tough Solar PRG-50-1VDR on the way from a recent trade (it should be here tomorrow!), and that one is WAY COOL.

NOTE: I received the Protrek watch yesterday, and it is EXCELLENT!
(That one IS the watch to get!).

VW, Howard at <A HREF="http://www.westcoastime.com" TARGET=_blank>www.westcoastime.com</A> has some great swiss-made automatic (= no batteries or manual wind) watches. The one in this picture <A HREF="http://www.westcoastime.com/precdivwatwc.html" TARGET=_blank>(diver)</A>I got for $265, which is a bargain for an automatic swiss-made watch, tritium dials, ETA 2824-2 movement, 200m/660ft water resistant.

<IMG SRC="http://www.ted.tweakdsl.nl/combo.jpg">

For $100 you can find an Invicta 8926 on Ebay or other shops. Put on a G-10 Nato strap and you have a cool watch.
This is considered the best buy ever for an automatic watch.
For more bargains, see the Poor Man's Watch Forum's Top 20 <A HREF="http://www.pmwf.com/Watches/T20PMW%20List%20Table.htm" TARGET=_blank>PMWF</A>

Good luck in your search.

Just going to explain why I don't like plastic watches...

they scratch up, the faceplate(also plastic 95% of the time) gets marked up so bad you can't read em. They usually aren't wide enough for a metal band so your stuck with either a plastic band or a fabric one that needs replacing every 6 months(wore the fabric bands for about 3-4yrs until I got sick of em)...

My last one was a Fossil, running the $300 range. SS casing, saphire blue face, mineral glass faceplate. Ran beautifully for the 3-4yrs that I had it. Titanium band on it never gave me a problem. I wear my watch on the inside of my arm. I tripped going up stairs after a snowfall, SMASH. Faceplate is busted in 1/2 with crystals inside, Second hand fell off that same day.

Since your Canadian, you should really try to get a SAR (Search And Rescue) watch from the Canadian Department of National Defence

<IMG SRC="http://www.minutemachines.com/watches/M ... hon01n.jpg" WIDTH=400>

A bit more then 100 CAD <img src="sad.gif" width=15 height=15 align=middle border=0>

Well how about some more specifics? Because, we as knifenuts are so finicky and attentive to detail on our equipment.

Are you after a battery, manual, automatic, or solar powered watch?

Digital? Analog face?

You already mentioned plastic cases are out. Which is kind of a shame, cause I feel like polymers are underrated sometimes...

Your price range is 100canadian, which is 76.00 US.

I'm still all for the Seiko 5. There's one here, although a bit on the expensive side. Search ebay.

The very top picture at:
http://www.geocities.com/midgettofu/Seiko.html
is my seiko 5. It's had a hard life (of 8 months) and is still toughing it out. The link might not work, cause geocities is no good.

Best of luck.

One hundred dollars Canadian is not a whole lot for a watch as I'm sure you know, here is my recommendation anyway.
You can usually get a Citizen watch on eBay for less than an equivalent Seiko. Here are two that I find attractive:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=31387
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi ... gory=31387
The seller also offers the dive watch for $85, so expect the final bid to be somewhere in between.

Hey Vamp,

I would highly recommend the Casio G-shock-very durable and good batt. life. If you really must have SS band, I would recommend a Wenger Swiss Army- I had one that lasted about 8 yrs before I "destroyed" it.
