Spydie changes that you would love to see (And buy)

#1

Post by Pyrochazm »

First off I absoutley love Spyderco knives the way they are. With that out of the way, there are a few things that I would definetly pay my hard earned dollars for if they integrated them into the current line of knives. First off, I think an SS police knife would be much better in the tip up carry position. I gaurentee I would buy one if it came out. And since Benchmade stole the spyderhole, Spyderco should steal the Axis-Lock(TM). So an SS police with an Axis-Lock(TM) and in the tip up carry position. I would pay a fairly large sum of money for this knife. Another one that should be thrust apon the world would have to be a supersizer native. If the native had a 4" blade and a handle to match, it might be the ultimate knife (right behind the aformentioned Police model) Yet another knife I would shell out a hundred plus greenbacks to obtain. What would be your ultimate spyderco knife?

1) a heavy duty cricket
2) Karambit blade with a compact ss or g10 handle (no ring) but I'll get the Spyderco Karambit as soon as it's available.

A black G-10 Dodo, but that one is probably already coming.

The 4 in Native in G10
This would fill a nitch in the larger Spydie line up.4in heavy duty useful blade in lock back.
We have in this size range
Military, great knife and blade shape but linerlock tip down
Police over 4in blade, narrow without much belly and tip down
Chinook.Geat knife and lock back but it has more of a speacial use blade.
Then comes the 4in Native.G10 would be great, tip up.right or left.very stout spear point blade, lockback.IMO this would fill a big gap in the large folders.

Would love Spyderco to drill & tap all 3 screw clip models for LH/RH use. Four way would be even better (LH/RH TD/TU). Then supply (or at least make available from factory) sets of headless set screws, to fill in the excess holes. Black nylon and ss versions of these screws are available for other products, so this should not be difficult.

While I like the idea of a larger Native, and most definitely will buy one if they come to pass, what I'd prefer at this point is a full size Calypso, either a reissue of the PE micarta version or Jeff's suggested FRN version. Just got a PE LH CF Police and, as impressed as I am with that knife (its AWESOME) it makes me want one that size with a full flat grind. Come to think of it, a CF Police with that grind and no swedge grind would work for me too.

On that note, would also love to see, and most assuredly would buy either the Salt I, or the D'Allara Rescue with a full flat ground PE blade as well, as blunt nosed blades have a certain appeal to me. Truth be known, if Sal made both, I'd buy one of each.

I'd also like to see more models given the type of "high end" treatment Sal has gone with on the new Navigator II. Sal's almost offhand announcement of that little jewel has me more excited than anything since I first saw a picture of the Schempp Persian. Seeing as how I already own a C27 Horn, 25th Anniv Delica, Persian, and jigged bone and Santa Fe Kiwis, I think it's safe to say that I'd buy at least one of any high end PE front-lock that hit the shelves.

Hmmmm...

Scales - More G10.
And if possible, play around with some color. I'm sure the multiple colors are expensive, but hey, I can ask can't I? Just think, Desert Camo or OD Enduras... Silver G10... More gray FRN

I saw a note about the axis lock - I have a BUNCH of those knives and really llike them, BUT - I really like the Compression Lock too - is that an in-house design (or is at least "safe" and economical for spyderco to use it on all their more serious stuff?) I've never used the Ball lock, is it rated similar to an axis? does it work as good?

Trainers - so why don't all the MBC rated items have trainers.

I'm a righty, but I think my 2 year old son will be a lefty. So... scales tapped and drilled for tip up / down/ left / right would be killer.

A knife just for me:
If I could, I would alter my Lil Temp to:
Create a more pronounced guard - The front-lower (blade edge) portion of the scale could be extended at least another 1/4".
My hands are small, I would make the rear portion of the knife just a tiny bit smaller.
I don't think I understand why some of the scale was smoothed. I'd checker everything but the edges and the indexing points.
I'd put some jimping (or whatever you want to call it) on the thumb rest of the blade to make it more secure, and do something similar on the butt of the knife for the thumb when in reverse grip.

More G-10 scales, specifically G-10 Natives (including the aforementioned 4&quot. Sprint runs of different colors would be cool.

A wider variety of models with compression locks instead of lock backs.

A Police model with a full flat grind (I'm trying for an old G-10 model, but perhaps the option with SS?)

[Guess who's waiting for a Para-millie ]

Just niggles and tweaks really.

i would love to see a spyderco auto. i'd also like to see the endura in some other steels. sv30 perhaps.

by the way, pyrochazm, without starting a huge arguement, spyderco came up with an idea that was accepted by the knife industry (the blade hole). just as spyderco borrowed an existing concept (lock-back, serrated blade) and made them a part of a new and innovative product, other knife companies have adopted some of spyderco's innvoations. that's the way it works. i know we all love spyderco but some things just need to be chalked up to progress and let go.

not to continue a big argument (which has already been argued to death at bladeforums), I think the standing issue on the hole is that spyderco trademarked the hole.

back to the thread at hand -
I think spyderco has already anticipated most of the feature combinations I really wanted: textured G10, mid-sized general-purpose flat-grind blade in s30v, compression lock, secure and comfortable (I hope) handle - soon to be available ParaMilitary!!

Also just picked up a Chinook II. Love the handle, very solid lock-up, beautiful lines, great steel, sharp sharp sharp. I'd like to see the chinook II handle with a Lil Temp type leaf blade (I like the chinook II, just want the other too).

I'd like to see a desert tan Delica, S30V blade (I know, it will be made at Golden not in Seki, but I can live with that) in full flat grind, cobra hood, wire clip with tip up/down left/right carry (yes, I studied this lately and I think it's feasible). Also reshaped FRN handles, sort of a peapod with volcano texturing. Adjustable pivot pin with phosphorous bronze washers. This comes close to my idea of ultimate FRN knife.

Having just thought about it a full sized Millie variant with a compression lock would sit well in EDC rotation.

Aloha! as for me, I'd like longer handles but w/ shorter blades, more wharncliffs, more "fat" blades like the Native but all of which possesing a flat grind. Maybe even a recurve of sorts...some changes to the FRN handles on the classics like the delica/Endura, FRN Police and I agree w/ DEACON: minus the swedge in the front and again, flat grind!!! SS models w/ slabs of FRN for better purchase...

God will put you over...if you let Him! Mark 11:23!

1. Delica with ZDP-189 steel, 65 HRC, micarta handles, or
2. same as above but for Calipso jr.
3. Lil' Temperance in BG-42, Titanium handles with integral compression lock (a la Salsa).
4. Perrin Bowie, as Shootist said.

1) Millie and Paramillie in w/OD and tan w/Ball lock(which is every bit as slick as the Axis lock).

2) Wharncliffes. A 3" blade Cento w/G-10 handles and Ball lock would be nice. And there should be an FRN Kiwi.

3) Lightened SS models w/better steel. Why can't the SS and FRN Delicas both be VG-10? I'd also like to see Navigator-style slots in the SS Delica/Endura/Police.

I hate to put this in, because I'm afraid they may do it. Bring out as regular models, a navy blue G-10 Police, and yes tip up, also an OD green G-10 Military. It just makes sence, I know because I'm a military cop. RKBA!
