The Filipino martial arts that I studied, the knife arts of escrima, kali, and arnis have hundreds of moves, some that rely on thrusts and some that rely on slashing, or a combination of the two. I prefer a more typical thrusting profile on the front 50% of my knives. The YoJumbo is an excellent knife, I need to get one. I sold my 3 Yojimbo's, but I would not have had I the cash to pay my debts. I wanted to save all of my Native Chiefs and I have them all!Foehammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 4:08 pmNaperville, you only use knives for self defence, right? Meaning you don’t use your knife for edc at all? Curious as to why you chose the Native Chief over a yo2 which was designed specifically for self defence.Naperville wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 3:57 pmI'd buy more Spyderco S90V Native Chiefs.
But there are M390 Native Chiefs available at Spyderco right now and when they are gone, they are long gone!!! These are fantastic knives.
I've used knives twice for self defense. I carry the Native Chief all of the time and always will. I don't see a better blade profile coming along. I am also trying to work in 3 other fixed blades into my EDC, so I will have 4 knives on me at all times.Foehammer wrote: ↑Tue Jan 31, 2023 4:08 pmNaperville, you only use knives for self defence, right? there are models showing up that i would love, but they aren't my favorites, so i'm letting them pass. perfect examples are the dlt yo2 in dlc cruwear/purple g10 and kc cruwear m2xl. those are some great knives, but i'd rather have the manixes i'm waiting on or other unique designs i don't already own.
Reading this closer, I see now that half a dozen was not a hard minimum. So, if you mean 2 or more of the same model, then I can add an embarrassing amount to my previous list.
i think i'm a fairly responsible person, but i've lost and found three spydercos now. one for years and the other two for months. it's not a difficult thing to do to lose a knife. that's another reason i can't bring myself to drop $500 on one.TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Wed Feb 01, 2023 1:21 pmI've done this with both the Manix and Para 3 in the past. I believe I've had 6-7 of each at one time...now down to 3 Manix and 1 Para 3.
I tend to find it to be a bit of a waste of money, and opportunity at other knives if spending so much money on the same knife, just in a different configuration. Particularly backups of the exact same knife. Nobody is going to use a knife, of the quality of a Spyderco that you will ever actually need a backup. That's silly talk. If you're not prying with your knife, and are responsible and don't lose them.
There's waaaaaaaaaaaay too many great knives from all sorts of different makers out there these days, I'd rather throw some money at something different and possibly find a new favorite or something that fills a niche...than buy the same knife over and over and over again.
