Even with my love of Cruwear I've passed on all these KC exclusives due to hating the smooth G10. This one is making me reconsider.
*cough* aftermarket scales *cough*
This tickled me! I’ve just picked one up for work, but after the ‘excitement’ of the first spyderflick opening of my KC exclusive Yojimbo at Christmas (and the ensuing hole in the sofa) I will definitely be swapping the scales to something with a bit more purchase.

Does anybody know of/recommend a manufacturer of contoured micarta scales for the XL? By contoured I mean rounded in profile, so they fill the hand a bit more and give a bit more purchase for one handed closing. It is my only gripe with my S30V XL (well, that and it’s not an St Nick’s 4V exclusive :winking-tongue )

I like all Spyderco locks except for the CBBL. I just find it fiddly and clumsy in use. I know most people seem to like it but I avoid this lock.

It's a shame the new Manix XL from Knifecenter has it. If it had been a back lock I'd definitely get one.

Great candidate for aftermarket scales. I’m putting less into the knife budget this year, otherwise I’d be all over this. Enjoy it, folks!
I'm happiest with Micarta and Tool Steel.

Top four in rotation: K390 + GCM PM2, ZCarta Shaman, Crucarta PM2, K390 + GCM Straight Spine Stretch.

Had one in the cart, but talked myself out of it. Not a fan of smooth G10, so I'm hoping one comes along with coarse purple G10 in the future.
Do love the manix2 XL, but I've got the M4 and 4V versions, not to mention a lot of cruwear already. If nothing else, I'd imagine a DLC version might come along soon. If I cave, I'd rather have the blackout version.

I have their regular manix cruwear smooth scales.

Yeah Smooth G-10 = NEVER AGAIN.

If I did not already own the DLC Manix XL I might consider this and look to swap the scales.

I´d really like to try an XL, must be a great knife.

So spontanously I tried to order one from knife center - but, well, here´s what they say...

"Due to the EU and UK's onerous VAT tax filing and remittance requirements, we are unable to process any orders under $200 USD. We apologize for this inconvenience."

Now shipping already included the price is just $ 191.98 (WITH taxes and tariffs it would be more like 260 or something when the knife arrived here).

Sure, I could add another small item to the basket to get over the 200 USD treshold, but somehow I just don´t feel like doing so.
Probably just get an S30V version here in Europe eventually. Fine with me too! :smlling-eyes
Yeah, more like 260 indeed ! It's around what I paid for the 15V Manix.
And yes again for the S30V version ;) That is my plan, for later.

I just got my first knife with smooth G10, and I can't imagine hating it. Or loving it for that matter. It just kind of is.

Ordered…my cruwear/smooth g10 lil native (now wearing micarta) made a believer out of me. Cruwear is my favorite edc steel and the scales are comfortable enough that even if I go Crucarta, they’ll end up on another knife. This is one of my favorite “exclusive” configurations.

This will also be my first Manix 2 xl. Cruwear and smooth g10 for LESS than the price of the stock model…

I like big knives. I have a police 3 g-10, a military, a native chief and a shaman. The Manix xl is just too much knife for me. It doesn’t feel comfortable in my pocket. I also sold my police stainless because it was just too hard to keep a good grip. I’m going to pass.

I like looking at this knife, and I'm fantasizing about owning it, but I'd not want to carry it; too large/heavy for my EDC. I purchased the original Manix lockback (the big one) way back when, and while it looks great in its box and in my hand, it is too large & heavy for my daily practical use. Over 5 oz. I can do 95% of the XL's cutting with a LW Manix that's <3 oz., so I'll keep my powder dry for a Magnacut LW Manix 2.

I'm bumping this just because I'm excited. I'm not a huge fan of smooth G10 but the extreme jimping should still provide adequate grip. Plus CruWear is fantastic.

And thanks AGAIN Vivi for convincing me the Manix 2 XL platform would work for me. Love it!!

I had the cruwear smooth g10 yojimbo and quickly returned it due to the scales being too smooth.

Never again here also.

I have two smooth Manix(s). The marbled CF and smooth G-10. I have zero issues with the grip on either. There is so much jimping on the liners and ergonomically the handle doesn't slip. I guess others milage may vary. I ordered one of these smooth XL Manix(s). The St. Nicks 4V was my first XL and I absolutely loved it. I expect I will love this one too.

For the price I couldn't resist so I pulled the trigger on an order this morning. If the smooth G10 is too slippery I'll pick up some aftermarket scales. First thing to do, when it arrives, is to swap for a deep pocket clip since there looks to be quite a bit of the knife above the pocket.

before i owned a manix, i really thought i wanted an xl. once i had them both in hand, i realized for edc i'd rather give up a little blade to have far less handle inside and outside of my pocket. it's a great knife, but i don't like the clip placement and i actually prefer the blade shape on the manix. my hands also fit perfectly in the manix handle, so i don't benefit the way some others do from the extra bulk of the xl. if i want a longer, or beefier blade, i just carry one of my xl cold steel knives, which are quite a bit bigger than the manix xl anyway.
