The Mosquito is the ultimate Spyderco collector grail item! As much as I love the Mosquito, I’d rather see it maintain that special exclusivity. A production version would make the original custom pieces much less special in my opinion.

The Bug is commonly used as a pipe tool/pick.

I kinda want a Tanto version for box opening.
Use the ladybug handle and call it the Mitsubachi (Japanese for ladybug)

I kinda want a ladybug that is a functional key too.

How about a Mansquito!

Manbug handle with mosquito pick.

Mosquito would be a cool forum knife.

This is probably getting away from the point of this knife (pun/no pun i dunno) but I've found that I actually use this awl tool on my Vic Spirit a surprising amount, if it were sharpened it could also still be used to cut some things or open boxes, maybe some stuff not as well as an actual blade but I could probably find some use for a Ladybug with an awl blade. I really have no idea what I'd use an actual Mosquito for besides having one of the originals as a collector's piece, so I'm not sure I'd buy a production version but if it were an awl it could be used to drill holes and still clean out a pipe like the OP mentioned.

If your goal is to have one of the originals that Sal made, I wish you luck. If you just want one for utility, Ladybugs aren't hard to find. All you need is a cheap belt sander and a little patience to make your own.

Beat me to it.

Making an awl, which the Mosquito never was as I understand it, from the resulting point would be a whole other challenge.

I would buy this so fast I might fold the fabric of spacetime. Yes, I smoke a pipe on occasion (cigars every day), but this would live on my keychain forever and get a lot of use. In VG10 I'd probably buy 3 or 4 of them.

I know it isn't too difficult because I've done it a few times.

Were the originals fully hardened blades? That tiny cross section area seems like it'd be so fragile

Yes, they were just Ladybugs that got reshaped.

What about making one of these for a pipe that is at an angle ? I would love to see the return of the Spyderco Balance. Perhaps a Balance lightweight revival?

Ooh, I might take my wharnie Delica that I was making Canadian Airline compliant (2 1/3") a little more skitter'ish. The Delisquito? I like small blades but am not crazy about small handles...

This would be an awesome forum knife! H2 Manbug in unique FRN color.

-H2- for the toughness for something that thin, and of course the corrosion thing.
-Manbug- more grip area, and also keeps the original ladybug special
-FRN Color- keeps it separate from the salt line

Best of all, legal and affordable for everyone!

This would make a neat forum knife. I say that because I’ve known about these and never once seen one for sale on the myth that sal handed them out randomly at meets and shows. I’m sure the people who have them keep them close to the chest. Such a cool way to up cycle a product.

In light of finding out about polished DLC and since the Mansquito would probably be ground in the states. Why not polish the needle when done then DLC it for a really one off forum knife.
