CTS-204P Shaman
Re: CTS-204P Shaman
Couldn't resist, was hoping for a re-release of the Knifeworks PM2 or a Military (although I do know they won't do that one again because it didn't sell well), so this will do as I don't have a Shaman yet. First new knife purchase in 8 months

Re: CTS-204P Shaman
Here’s a chart from Larrin comparing various stainless steels including Elmax and 204P:

Re: CTS-204P Shaman
I've got nothing but good things to say about 204p. sharpens surprisingly well for being such a wear resistant stainless steel, great corrosion resistance and edge holding is definitely better than S30V.
These 204p releases look so good. Hope we see a Military 2 someday!

Re: CTS-204P Shaman
I was just looking at my 2 Shamans and was thinking...that DLC 4V blade and hardware sure would look sweet in these handles!! Satin 204P in red wouldn't be bad either...but I also love that red/black combo.

Re: CTS-204P Shaman
Pretty similar, both stainless, ELMAX is tougher, 204P has more edge retentionWilliamMunny wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 6:22 pmThat’s is a very good looking green.
Okay I will put it out there…. If you were going to buy one which is the better knife? Grey Elmax or Green 204P? Is it just color preference or is the 204P a noticeable step above Elmax?
Re: CTS-204P Shaman
I appreciate Larrin and his meticulous work, and the fact that he shares it all for free. I was on his website looking at this chart, then at the elemental composition chart; and after looking at all the numbers, my head started to hurt a little. Sooo much information.
Re: CTS-204P Shaman
Just going by this chart I don´t see why I should choose Elmax over S30V - pretty similar, right?
Of course I don´t know if the heat treat Spyderco applies perhaps enhances the slight differences - but as it is, I´d prefer the "base" S30V Shaman, and be it only for the cool sonewashed blade finish...
And of course people who know more about steels than I and are able to detect finer differences might enjoy Elmax over S30V
EDIT: Post would have fit better in the actual ELMAX Shaman thread... (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=93097)...
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

Re: CTS-204P Shaman
Well, Got the 204P Shaman, guess I own 3 Shamans now. Rex 45, M4 and 204P. When lc200n? When Magnacut?

I risked myself, told them to tighten down the pivot so it's hard to open one handed..... we'll see...TheGiant80 wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 3:18 pmDang! That is pretty. If I didn't already have a Shaman stolen by customs this week I'd be all over it.
Re: CTS-204P Shaman
Have you seen what Shawn posted on his IG about Spyderco heat treat of magnacut? If you haven't I suggest you go check it out. It's nothing but a hint that things are coming honestly. But I'm dreaming of a whole line of magnacut sprints like they did for rex45...

Re: CTS-204P Shaman
That's a beautiful knife. I've got the old school PM2 and Military exclusives from KW. The Military in particular is one of my favorites. Great colors and exceptional steel.
But I've got to pass since I've already got 2 Shamans that aren't carried nearly enough.

If I hadn't just lost my money on that micarta Shaman I would take you up on that offer immediately!Rinzler wrote: ↑Mon Aug 15, 2022 4:12 pmJust have someone buy it, disassemble, then forward to you in two shipments. Re: CTS-204P Shaman
I will buy all my favorites in LC200N and Magna Cut. I want to get titanium scales for a stainless shaman and either of those will get that treatment. Now that I have the 204P, I will get the Titanium scales for sure. I just wish Spyderco make some factory ones. They would sell like hotcakes. A Ti-Salt Shaman would be bees knees https://youtu.be/0qjvuhztaWUVaugith wrote: ↑Tue Aug 16, 2022 8:03 amHave you seen what Shawn posted on his IG about Spyderco heat treat of magnacut? Re: CTS-204P Shaman
I will use my M4 shaman as a work beater, my Rex45 as an EDC and the Ti 204P as a corrosion champ until the LC200N or Magna Cut version happens
