Interesting. I've been surprised at how durable those coatings are. My Manbug "rescue" resides on my keychain and despite all the abrasion it goes through, the coatings have held up great. Still, great knife to be used making great memories!
Similarly, I throw my Dragonfly Salt around a lot and the coating seems to hold up better than my PacSalt LC200N. Heck my Salt 2 in H1 has held up as well. If they're making these screws from H1 and LC200N respectively, maybe the coating just doesn't stick very well with LC? I have no idea if they do or don't though, just spitballing

I have been in Texas the past week or so. I grew up here, so I like to visit family and friends regularly. I hate checking a bag so I don't carry a knife with me on the plane. I sent myself a Swiss Army Tinker via the mail. I never bothered to ship a Spyderco, because what if I wanted it when I'm back in Boston? Well, one of my good friends finally bought himself a nice knife. Now he's obsessed (still working on getting him a Spyderco). I'm bummed that I can't show off what I love. Next time, I'll be sure to send myself a Spydie so I won't be without.

Okay that's enough internet for today when I'm contemplating scraping my pivot coating off :rofl

Looks great!

It does look much better. With all coatings, surface prep is key. Seems that particular pivot may have needed a bit more prep. Sorry yours arrived that way but in all the coated knives I've handled, yours is the first I've seen with that sort of an issue.

I really love my LC200N Salt2.

Here is mine a little closer. Now the coating on the clip is much different than non-salt Sekis. Much more durable than the painted clips

Again, doesn't bother me because I use and enjoy the heck out of it, but maybe just another data point.

I also remember someone doing a review on these when they first came out about this spot coming off in the same way. Its on one of the first threads about this knife.

Huh. I’d probably strip the knife down and throw the coated parts in a jar of acetone or MEK. Parkerized, nitrided, I’m good with that. But not baked on stuff.

Here's my EDC, a knife I've carried as much as everything else in my collection combined over the last year.

Just touched up my SPY27 Native 5 and have to say, I love how easily this steel forms a burr and how easily it strops back off. A few minutes on a fine DMT and stropped on leather with green honing compound and it is hair popping sharp with a nice sticky edge.

Wanna see something funny? I was browsing old IDE hard drives for pictures of my first Swick, and I came across this mockup I made in 2007. Basically a wharncliffe lil native. Hard to believe there was a time when that's what I had in mind for an ideal EDC!

I think it has merit, still, but it would be too small for you now.

Far as I can tell that would be about a two finger grip for vivi :rofl

I like it. Looks like a Wharie Poliwog with the handle cut in half and JBwelded back together. :beaming-face

If you add about an inch or so to the numbers at the bottom, this might be a winner.

I'm sure many have seen this, but I had not. Good article about the origins of Spyderco. Nothing that I didn't already know, but was definitely an interesting read.
