Stretch 2 non-SS K390?

#1

Post by mpc2 »

I searched around and could not find whether the "normal" Stretch, ie the non-straight spine one will also get a K390 version.
Does anybody know more about that? I also read somewhere that that model might get phased out entirely?

The stretch 2 from my quick Spyderco.com search appears to be in the catalog. It was not on the d/c list for 2021.

I think the normal stretch 2 is still being produced. The K390 treatment looks to be SS Stretch 2 only per catalog.
Was never a space cadet, but with LC200N I might be more in space than a cadet.

Sure would like the K390 version with the drop point. I like the SS, but it's almost not a stretch if it isn't a drop point.

And that would be a knife begging for a .010” behind the edge regrind. As a folding hunting blade that would be killer!

100% agree. It looks more like a hunter when not SS, and I prefer it. I don t hate the SS though.

A Stretch 2 in K390 with the original blade drop point.
I would immediately purchase 2 or 3.
My favorite Seki-City Spyderco.

I really like the "original" blade shape of the Stretch too.

One thing the straight spine version does better for me though (but this has nothing to do with the blade shape itself!):
It has a slightly longer blade, and a slightly shorter blade part of the choil. And consequently more cutting edge (just a bit though)
Top three going by pocket-time (update March 24):
- EDC: Endura thin red line ffg combo edge (VG10); Wayne Goddard PE (4V), Endela SE (VG10)
-Mountains/outdoors: Pac.Salt 1 SE (H1), Salt 2 SE (LC200N), and also Wayne Goddard PE (4V)

If you like the stretch 2, HAP40 and ZDP-189 can still be found, but not for long. I think they are worth the price at retail.

I was not a great fan of the non straight spine blade on the Stretch. I no longer hunt, but for those who do, I could see the appeal of this knife. For my uses, the straight spine is better and more aesthetically pleasing.
