Spyderco Belt Buckle

#1

Post by Mini2white »

I was hoping the history buffs here may be able to tell me a little about the Spyderco belt buckle. I was fortunate enough to be able to add one to my collection recently. I would love to know when it was made and if there were many/approx numbers?

Thank you

I found some posts from 2005 where they had been bought on ebay. Has anyone got any further information?

There are a few members that are still active here that were in that 2005 thread. They may have more history on the buckle at this point, but the person with the real knowledge is Sal. Maybe he'll chime in an let you know how the belt buckle came about. That past thread devolved pretty quickly and didn't give any information other than the buckle was picked up for ~$35 second hand in 2005.
So it goes.

This is so rad I'd buy one right now. I wish Spyderco would do more accessories like this more often.

This was from a couple months ago, it was the first time I had heard of the buckle. No background info though...

Spyderco actually once did make a belt buckle. Fellow forum member, The Deacon, has a photo of it on his website. http://paulberetta.com/spydercobilia.htm

I don't usually wear belts that would accommodate one but I would still welcome a new Spyderco belt buckle. I would come up with a reason to use it.
So it goes.

I would want a belt buckle that you clip your knife onto or into. Maybe a kydex belt buckle like a neck knife sheath or leather knife slip. Think something like the Raptor EMS shears and holster attached to a belt that you would mount horizontal

Am reasonably sure these belt buckles were not something Spyderco ever sold and, IIRC, they were made for Spyderco as gifts for their employees.

They're 3" wide, 2" high, about 1/8" thick and will take up to a 1 1/2" belt.

Thank you Deacon. I was surprised at the quality and size when mine arrived. It is something I would buy if it was available in the catalogue. Im sure many others would also.

They were made by the late Jim Phillips probably 15-20 years ago. Not a big bunch made.

Any good sand caster could replicate those buckles...

The guy who assisted me in my first Serrata castings does green sand casting for stuff like this.

Al bronze, aluminium, brass, bronze, or even silver for the rich folk, can be cast, maybe 8 at a time.

Methinks that there is untapped market for this, myself included.

I’d wear one for sure! I used to have a Ruger buckle, but the wings were pointy and poked me when I sat.

Jim Phillips also made this fairly rare sterling pin of a R/H Serrated Police model with a L/H pocket clip.
