Kapara Reassembly help (CQI version)

#1

Post by XsoldoutX »

Hey everyone,

I am in need of some help reassembling my CQI Kapara. I’ve taken it apart for the first time for maintenance etc, and I’m having an awfully frustrating time getting it back together. Any guidance as to what I may be doing wrong would be an absolute life saver.

Everything has been cleaned, and none of the components appear to be damaged in any way. The knife’s action was just fine to begin with, but I wanted to take it apart to see its internal workings in an attempt to familiarize myself with the knife a bit more.

When I put the blade back on to the bottom scale (with everything in place as I believe it should be, and the pivot screw in place as well), I cannot get the blade to move at all once I do so. I think the issue is that the top of the shorter of the two pins, the t-shaped one (I know this isn’t the technical term, and please parson my ignorance) is not seating into the slot in the blade, and I cannot figure out what to do next. Ive included a bunch of pics, and I’m at my wits end over here. What am I missing? I’ve watched a few disassembly vids on YT, but I just can’ figure out where I am going wrong. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have not tried putting the other scale on yet since the blade wont move downward.

I’m sure it’s is something silly that I’m missing.

Thanks in advance for reading this and adding any input. Seriously. This knife has been disassembled for three weeks and I just cant figure it out, so here I am haha.

Matt

Loosen your pivot screw ( or remove the screw, but leave the pivot in) and try again.

Looks like the smaller pin (the T one) you are talking about is possibly in upside down. The larger part of the T goes in the handle below the liner so it is held securely in place.

Alistair has a video on his site showing tear down and reassembly. That may help you.

It's always nice to have the designer available to lend a hand!
