Does this mean we’re going to see increased production of spy27 models?

Hopefully this will reduce the demand on the unique mules and the program can return to something closer to Sal’s original intent.

Mule Team MT38 M398 is still in stock.

Spyderco’s Mule Team project began as a unique way of allowing our customers to share in the performance testing of various blade steels using the same fixed-blade “mule” format. Sold without handles or sheaths, mules are also popular “kit” blades for aspiring knifemakers and hobbyists. Since the demand for different mules varies by steel type, their availability also varies greatly. To address that challenge, we created a full-production Mule Team blade in our proprietary CPM SPY27 blade steel. That way our customers will always have a ready supply of one of our most popular Mule Team blades for their projects. To differentiate it from the original CPM SPY27 Mule Team, this blade features a distinctive straight-spined profile; however, its tang design and hole pattern remain faithfully compatible with all existing aftermarket scales and hardware.

Scarcity helps makes the Mule team popular. You offer a Mule that's always available, and the interest will be less. (Over a long time, the always-available Mule might sell more than a 'flash batch' of regular Mules.)

At any rate, thanks to Spyderco for making a mule that's always in stock!! And of such a nice steel, too.

(I wonder what the effect would be if a straight spine Magnacut Mule were always available?)

A "production" magnacut mule mule would be totally amazing, and I'd have several more fixed blades based on that for sure. But, SPY27 is no slouch, I hear. Excited to try it out soon.

I'm not too sure about that, varying demand notwithstanding. I very well could be the minority here but the straight spine blade isn't appealing to me and I don't like that it requires its own specialized sheath. I had thought I read it was going to be compatible with the existing sheath and handles but maybe it was just the latter. I might still get one, but I'm nowhere near enthused about it because of those aspects.

I think most people prefer the standard Mule's curved spine to the straight spine, and the sheath incompatibility is just a friction point, but here's my perspective:

• Do I want a SPY27 Mule, even if it's not the coolest version? Yes. Getting the OG SPY27 Mule is hard at this point.

• Would I pay $60 for a top-tier heat treated kit knife for fixed-blade shenanigans? Again, yes, although I might do some reprofiling on the spine that shortens the overall blade a bit.

The MT2 is specifically designed for the straight spline mule , you’ll need the regular sheath for the T15.
Can’t believe the MT2 are gone so soon , would have imagined building enough stock to match the mule demand.

I'm also going to let it simmer a bit to try and save on shipping with the T15 Mule. If I can't hold out, I'll have to pick up three. Free shipping thresholds make people do strange things!

Hi, Connman:
Welcome to our forum. I assume you're referring to the MTSH2 (Sheath for the MT28P2)? If so, there will be more available very soon.

We hope you enjoy your time with us.

I also missed the sheaths. I did buy several of the MT2s though. I'll order some sheaths for them once they come back in stock.

By MT2 I was referring to the SPY27 Mule, that's its reference :winking-tongue. I meant that I'd be happy to grab a couple of Spy27 Mules in addition the 2 T15 Mules on the day they'll drop. But thanks anyways, it was kind of you to try to help !

Does anyone know if the MT2 fits the leather sheath? I assume so, but can anyone verify with one in hand?
