I don’t really know if I’ll buy one yet, but I hope this is successful if only for the possibility that could facilitate its use in other Spyderco’s down the line (which is when I’ll be more likely to buy).

I am going to buy at least one but my real question is; is anyone going to make a hidden tang kitchen knife out of one? I made a couple of Japanese style handles out of Magnolia and Yew this week and now I am wondering what is the best way to shape the hidden tang without affecting the heat treat on the sharp pointy end? Anyone got any suggestions? I can use lots of different cutting tools from a hacksaw to a plasma jet or a water jet cutter. Thanks for the info.

I'd go for two. I only have 5 Mules so far. B75P, B70P, COS-3, PD1, and Z Max. I'm just starting to fiddle about with making handles for them and having a good time with it.

I have gotten one or two in the past—
Since I sign in to Spyderco.com, I wonder if there is a way I can be notified when Coming Soon! MT 32 becomes
On Sale Now!
In that case, I would buy one.
I have one in LC200N that is my favorite for salt water activities, and an RWL 23. I’m happy with both and I think I should add one more to my MT collection. By the time I stop by the site again, they will be sold out.

I'll get one, maybe 2, we'll see. Need to get some more hardware or set up a small workspace outside where I can make them (or maybe 3D print a pair).

I find it interesting to see the lower numbers cast in the poll here. I will be very interested to see how the actual sale day goes and if there is big demand outside the forum for this type of steel.

Gifting it to my wife as a kitchen knife. She loves to cook and this will become the nicest kitchen knife we own.

I really enjoy reading in this forum but I would absolutely not consider it a real representation of Spyderco’s base, nor would I consider a poll here to be indicative of future buying trends.

Mules are very popular right now. I bet these sell out rather quickly.

...nor would I consider a poll here to be indicative of future buying trends.

Explain?

Are you saying that a poll here would not predict buying, say, two years from now? Define what you mean by 'future'?
Or are you saying that you would not expect the number of votes to equal the number of sales?

Either of the above, I agree; I think both are obviously true. In the first case, predictions always have a limited time horizon; and in the second, the forum is a small subset of the buying population.

But the interesting question is this: Is interest on the forum PROPORTIONAL to sales? For example, does interest on the forum scale up 500% or whatever the number is? This sort of check is basic polling science. You CAN get an idea of where the population is going by sampling a SUBSET of the population...IF that subset is representative of the population. That's the big IF. For example, if the general knife buying population was crazy to get Magnacut, but the forum members were not, then the forum would be a non-representative subset.

My hunch is that interest by the forum has *some* relationship to popularity on sales day, but I don't know what it is yet. Based on Magnacut sales (mind you, a very low sample size, n=1!, and an unusual steel with lots of advanced hype, so likely not predictive) In the absence of better data, one might take a ballpark guess that fast sales are maybe 4-6x the forum interest. But several sales would be needed before a stable estimate could be made.

I wouldn't take a guess at the # likely to sell until we get closer to the sale date. But so far, the forum is saying 115 accounted for. If the sale were held tomorrow, and we used the (probably instable, but we'll see) 4-6x multiplier from MagnaCut, we might guess 460 to 690 might sell.

500-700 are typical production numbers, so just on the forum interest to date, and using a very instable estimate, it looks like Spyderco would have no trouble selling its 32P.

If they increase the limit to 2, then I'll buy it. I'm not going to pay a premium for shipping when the limit is 1.

The late switch from allowing two purchases to one purchase puts a kink in predicting demand! Now I'll have to count all the "two" responses as "one." So now the number of Mules "intended to buy" from forumites is just 77 (not 115 as counted in an earlier post).

Last-minute bump. 79 currently.

EDIT: Sale for #32 now live, final count for the forum at 79. Let's see, let's try the x5 multiplier, that rounds up to 400, and if we use the x6 multiplier, that's around 470. Reports of 500 produced. If those multipliers are ballpark, you'd expect slower sales than previous.

^ Yep. As the 5x and 6x multipliers would predict, a slower sale. The mule is still available an hour and a quarter after the sale began AND this time, orders were processing by about 9:05 am Colorado time.
