Re: Upcoming MT32P (SRS13/SUS405) discussion thread
This will be such an interesting release. The entire extent of info I could find on SRS13 is basically already reposted in this thread. Just short blurbs in chef's knife forums. I only own one laminated knife and I never beat the heck out of it, might grab one of these mules for that purpose.
Re: Upcoming MT32P (SRS13/SUS405) discussion thread
Looking at that upcoming Urban in Damasteel, I'd love to see a Damasteel mule, but I bet it would be a bank breaker. Damasteel is kind of ridiculously pricey. I've looked at building some knives out of it to gift to family, and it's not very feasible.

Yes would love to see some DC18N Damasteel. That would finally give us a Spyderco with Vanax!

Re: Upcoming MT32P (SRS13/SUS405) discussion thread
Not a lot of discussion of SRS13 that I could find, but here are some snippets:
“Developed by Nachi-Fujikoshi, SRS13 steel is a powder metallurgy stainless steel, which can be heat treated to HRC64…The steel is like a tougher version of SG2…sometimes compared with SRS15, HAP40, SG2, and ZDP189…1.3% Carbon, 13% Cr, 2.7% Moly, 1.7% Tungsten, 1.5% Vanadium… used as a core for higher end laminated steel kitchen knives."
I'm a little curious why a stainless steel would need the lamination, unless it's very brittle, in which case, what's it doing in the kitchen where one can hit a bone? The explanation I've seen is that a thin core makes a culinary knife easier to sharpen. OK, but with my diamond stones, I don't have trouble sharpening any steel...so that doesn't really apply to knife knuts like us.
Wish I could have found Catra or toughness info, but could not find either.

DC18N is even more expensive, unfortunately.Joshcrutchley1 wrote: ↑Thu Jan 13, 2022 4:38 pmYes would love to see some DC18N Damasteel. That would finally give us a Spyderco with Vanax!

For example, here's a piece that's roughly 1.5" by 12" for about $550: https://www.artisansupplies.com.au/prod ... 5-x-357mm/
But I agree that I'd rather see DC18N. Someday I'll break down and buy some and build some things for myself, but I'm not there yet. With materials that expensive you want to have a very high level of skill to do them justice.

Ouch, that's a lot. Guess we might be limited to just Vanax. That price makes me think of the Phil Wilson BBB video where Phil didn't use full tang on the expensive/rare stuff.TomAiello wrote: ↑Fri Jan 14, 2022 10:11 am

This!
Would love to add this to kitchen knives (San Mai blue#2, super blue, and white #1). Can't wait to compare to these classics. I suspect superiority, but only time in the kitchen will tell.
Will also be an interesting blade geometry for kitchen tasks. Similar to a ko-deba, which I don't have.

Since I'm still waiting on my Magnacut mules, I might use this next one instead to make a kitchen knife for my father ! Would be more classy ^^ And I'd get some cool feedback comparing MT35P and MT32P for food prep.
In the collection : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Ramonade: any clue when the release day is announced? I’ve got the money set aside and everything but I’m new to the Mule Team Game (this would be my first), and these scales and sheath I got in an online holiday sale are basically useless without a blade lol. And tips would be much appreciated!

Just keep an eye on the forums. They always start a new thread with the release date and time, usually a week or two in advance. Then just make sure you are logged in a few minutes ahead of the release time and hopefully the website doesn't crash.wmarsh100 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 17, 2022 2:39 amRamonade: any clue when the release day is announced? Hello! I'm new to the forum. How fast do these Mules sell out? Any particular day and time they get released on the website? Thanks.

Re: Upcoming MT32P (SRS13/SUS405) discussion thread
The last release sold out in about 90 minutes, but that was a combination of the website slowing/crashing under the traffic and the run being several times larger than usual. The previous two both sold out within 10-15 minutes of going live.
The release day will be announced here on the forum a week or two before it goes live. It will probably be 9am mountain time.

This mule probably wont sell as fast as the last one. There is considerable less hype around SRS13. In many ways this is a good thing, you are more likely to get your hands on one if you want to jump into the mule game.
