Re: scales and sheaths
Everyone wants a Magnacarta.
I’m thinking more along the lines of salt knife and I’m wondering what alloy the hardware that comes from Halpern is made from.

Probably just “stainless steel”resonanzmacher wrote: ↑Thu Dec 09, 2021 8:28 pmEveryone wants a Magnacarta.

You should never have to ask yourself "do i really need another knife?" The answer is obvious...
Re: scales and sheaths
Sorry. "Experienced veteran" I'm not. Would you settle for "Elderly and unskilled?"
I've only used one sheath for a Mule. First, the opening where the knife "snaps" into place needs some adjustment. This is dependent upon the scales, so maybe its expected that a little adjustment is needed. No matter, as the material can be filed, sanded, heated, and reformed easily. The bigger inconvenience is that the clip is TIGHT. It's WAY TIGHT. To remove the sheath, I need to undo my pants completely, pull back my belt, and use two hands to remove the clip. I understand the importance of retention, but cowabunga! Just today I received another sheath, so I'll experiment with the first one and see if I can use heat to decrease some of the "spring." Maybe I"ll get a Ulticlip. Or maybe I'll let it be.
As for scales, I don't like the way the Halpern scales fit in the pictures I've seen. I've read that making undersized scales helps with blade control, but I'd prefer a closer fit. That guy on Etsy... hazy... something... makes scales that look closer to the correct size.
Re: scales and sheaths
i guess i'm going to start out with a paracord wrap and no sheath. maybe i'll just carry it around open for a bit.

One of those Rambo prop knives sold for $128k recently, that paracord could end up worth its weight in gold

Re: scales and sheaths
So I'm also brand new with all this, but the way I see it is you can't really pick and choose this combo, they need to work together because a sheath is only as good as the retention is, and the scales work hand in hand with the sheath (unless you want a deep carry leather sheath).
I started out with the Halpern scales and Spyderco sheath mostly because I wanted to hit the ground running with this and I want a functional carry method immediately. So far the retention/fit into the sheath is excellent, no rattling or anything like that. I'll start out carrying it tip up hanging from my belt from paracord just like I've done with my Jumpmaster 2 and go from there.
Beyond that I think the best bet is to start with scales and then find someone to make you a custom kydex sheath to fit them.

I wonder if an azwelke works with this.standy99 wrote: ↑Mon Dec 06, 2021 11:48 pmhttps://cuscadi.de/
Cuscadi Makes a good range of anything you want really. Just have to ask. (This is probably the first set of glow scales they made for a Mule and had no issue making them for me)
But basically anyone that makes custom scales will make them if you ask.
Re: scales and sheaths
I feel the same way about these. Please let us know if you craft a liner that improves it. I’m very interested!

Local custom job
Im a vegetarian as technically cows are made of grass and water.
Re: scales and sheaths
Here's where I'm at today. Easy to conceal with a hoodie, I keep the paracord loose enough that I can twist it around to 90 degrees so it doesn't dig into my hip or car seat or whatever.

Re: scales and sheaths
Is that the Spyderco kydex?
Does anyone use the leather sheath that Spyderco has?
I contacted couple kydex sheath makers (since the Spyderco one is out of stock) and none of them are taking orders.

Re: scales and sheaths
I just got the leather sheath. Haven’t put it to much use yet. Seems okay. Says made in Japan. Is a bit stiff but the sewing, riveting, and edge finish are all quality. I’m not into the belt loop but it is going to ride in a pack anyways.
Is there something specific you would like to know or see?
Re: scales and sheaths
any pics of the knife in the sheath? on a belt? it would be nice to see how it rides in the sheath and on a belt.

Re: scales and sheaths
Appreciate the info. If you are able to post pics, I wouldn’t mind a pic of the back side of the sheath and also the mule in the sheath. If not, no worries.Crox wrote: ↑Sun Dec 12, 2021 9:42 pmI just got the leather sheath. Haven’t put it to much use yet. Seems okay. Says made in Japan. Re: scales and sheaths
Sure - I’ll post something in the morning.
Re: scales and sheaths
It is. I don't want the leather for work, I really prefer to be able to carry tip up like this. Makes it a lot easier to draw and resheath.

Evil D , does the Jump Master where you have it set interfere accessing the Autonomous ? Just asking I am new with the Mule project myself . I did have the MT01 and had a custom a custom handle made but never carried . I’m looking at a possibility of a cross draw type sheath . I’m supposed to see a local guy in town this week to discuss making a sheath . My Halpern scales are in and Mule should be in this afternoon . S project is moving along . MG2

Not really, it moves out of the way easily enough, the sheath is sort of dangling with how loose I have the belt loops so it isn't stiff and doesn't stay exactly in that position but also doesn't move around a lot.
