oh nice! i have a set of g10 scales, looking for a set for my second mule. smooth isn’t my thing anymore, can’t get good grip. living in the high desert drys out the fingiesladybug93 wrote: ↑Wed Mar 23, 2022 9:02 pmit does have a texture to it. if you look at their g10 scales, you can see the texture better. it's the same, but i prefer the feel of micarta and i'm guessing the texture feels better on micarta.
with the shape of the handle, i found that paracord wouldn't stay in place during use. this handle is much more comfortable.

Re: scales and sheaths
I decided to try and learn how to do sheaths next ! Handle-making is something I've just began, but I need a place to store and carry the knives in in addition to the sock drawer haha.

Re: scales and sheaths
The JRE Model E sheath fits snugly out of the box with the Halpern contoured scales. It doesn't fit well with wider aftermarket scales like the Elijah Sonntag Designs 3D printed scales. Those aren't much wider than stock but have blockier corners. If this sheath loosens up in use, I'll give those another shot.Manixguy@1994 wrote: ↑Fri Dec 24, 2021 11:11 amSince I’m a lefty I have been looking around for a leather sheath . I contacted JRE they suggested the E model. Has anyone tried it on a Mule ? DLT has them available .

I make my own. Not to hard if you have some basic power tools.

Re: scales and sheaths
I wonder if anyone has ever made leather scales, like the American made Estwing Hatchet?
And how do they do that anyhow?

I think it's stacked leather that's compressed onto the handle, then sanded into shape. Yeah, that would be a cool mule handle for sure.
