Just going to leave this here...
Re: Just going to leave this here...
I'm getting excited.
Re: Just going to leave this here...
I hope limit will be 2 for person not 1 :) .....waiting release date :)
Re: Just going to leave this here...
I wonder if there will be folders released in MagnaCut right around the corner as well?? Seems like the past few Mule steels that have come out, there's been Spyderco folders out on the market for months already.

i've been advocating for a spy27 g10 manix, but if magnacut comes first, it'll be a must buy.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
If I can manage to get it around $100 shipped max I'll be more than happy ! Always wanted to join the mule team, and have been thinking daily about Magnacut since I've heard of it (and it wasn't a week ago !).
In the collection : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
It does seem to work backwards like that sometimes. You'd think the mules would be easier and faster to produce and we'd see those long before folders but maybe it has something to do with what thickness they can get the steel in first. If they can get steel in 4mm and the mules are ran at 3mm then maybe they run whatever models they can in 4mm until they can get the right thickness. I also wonder if sometimes the mule is just an afterthought when a steel isn't exactly brand new to the market. I'm sure Spyderco recognize that the mule program is more than just a testing platform to most people, it's also a less expensive way to get a nice fixed blade in what's usually a pretty awesome steel so maybe they do it later for this reason too.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
Mules are not money makers for Spyderco, so I doubt they get fast tracked ahead of the models that keep the lights on and the employees paid.
They will be here soon enough, then we can enjoy the complaints of all those who missed out.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
This will be my first attempt at a Mule Team — flippers permitting. Very curious about the corrosion resistance of MagnaCut over M390/20CV (also getting a Vanax SuperClean folder elsewhere next month). I’m guessing $50+ each with 2 per household limit and a good 1,500 produced?

Re: Just going to leave this here...
MagnaCut is such an important evolution in steel, that I am going to start complaining now. I don't want to miss out on the mule OR the inevitable complaining that will follow.
Re: Just going to leave this here...
I honestly don't follow the hype on steels until they are readily available. I've obviously seen A LOT about it, but what's the big hoopla all about...does it have traits of LC200N/Maxmet/Cruwear all tied in one or something? A little bit of the best of all aspects? Seems like every new steel is THE STEEL these days.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
I think it was.... stainless as 20CV/S45VN and edge retention of 4V? Don't quote me on that. Or do quote me, but don't assume I'm right
Re: Just going to leave this here...
i'm the same way. i don't usually jump on the hype, but i've been wanting to try a mule for a long time and they're always gone before i know anything about the steel. also, with all the hype around this one, i figured i should try and check it out.TkoK83Spy wrote: ↑Mon Nov 22, 2021 1:08 pmI honestly don't follow the hype on steels until they are readily available. if you're anywhere as dumb as i am, you can probably just skim this article and get what you need, while ignoring the technical stuff. otherwise, i'm sure this is great reading for people that understand more about steel than i do.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
If I am correct in my understanding, Magnacut should be a very stainless steel that also has toughness and edge holding. A hat trick not previously available on the same stainless steel. Dr. Larrin managed to move all the sliders up at the same time, rather than one down, two up like older steels.

Re: Just going to leave this here...
For being someone all about using my knives pretty heavily everyday for work, the scientific stuff is waaaaaaaaaaayyyyy over my head (So I definitely feel you there Ladybug!) I'm pretty simple...I just like above average toughness, great edge holding, fairly easy to sharpen/reprofile. Thankfully for me, how stainless something is has zero sway one way or the other.
Great way to put it there Jim, with the sliders haha. Seems like a possible homerun for everyone...until we hear about chipping and how difficult is it to sharpen, and whatever else people won't like about it!
