Well, no duh eh. Z-Max is not a stainless steel, it will corrode.
This is the corrosion build up after 1 week of processing moose hide. Mostly cutting membranes and muck off, some shaving hair off, and lots being wet.
It has mostly cleaned off with a good scrub but there is some pitting and discoloration.
The Halpern scales are easy to remove and make the clean up something I should do daily instead of weekly.
Well heck, it's a mule. Work it hard and send it back to the stable.
Z-Wear loaded and ready to pull.
Thanks Spyderco for the great steel and excellent platform.

Mine also has corrosion on the handle under the halpern scales.

Thanks for the post. Please let us know if the z-wear does any better or worse with corrosion. I think it should be a bit better but never sure.ykspydiefan wrote: ↑Tue Oct 05, 2021 12:11 pmWell, no duh eh. Z-Max is not a stainless steel, it will corrode.

Re: Z-Max Corrosion
Z-MAX contains about 4.00 of Chromium
while
Z-WEAR contains about 7.50 of Chromium (almost twice more than Z-MAX)
So, definitely Z-WEAR is much less prone to corrosion than Z-MAX. Though both steels ain't stainless anyway

Re: Z-Max Corrosion
Part of my decision to attaching handles for good was due to the wicking of water underneath the scales
