In the name of mule science

#1

Post by standy99 »

Having the last 3 mules since the reboot awaiting handles I thought I would run a little science experiment

Image

Secret ingredient added….. :winking-tongue

Image

Chose to use the handle so it doesn’t upset the blade.

Did you swab with alcohol first?

Tomato sauces are pretty acidic
It will clean pots and pans or take the season off a cast iron pan.
Not scientific and definitely gross but a more real world situation, but I wonder how a blade would react to being wrapped in a sweat soaked shirt for a day. Maybe rub a few blades with the sweat filled shirt and then wrap it up in a ziplock bag and compare?

Unless that's Grey Poupon, I don't think it really counts as mustard.

Great idea! I dunked a PD#1 mule in a pickle jar of secret liquid for a couple days, but it didn't darken it up as much as I was wanting...I'll see if I can come up with a comparison pic.

I thought for sure Z-Max was going to look way worse. Very interesting can't wait for more results. I wonder how much difference there is from the surface finish because I don't think the holes are finished to the same degree as the flats.

I think the sweaty shirt ziplock bag test is probably the most real world rest for my uses. I may have to try that.

What about…

Salt water - would be good to see how knives used around the ocean or even bays like the Chesapeake.

Lemon juice - just something to simulate food prep.

Raw meat - to simulate food prep and field work.

I am not sure if you got the z-wear but I would love to see the same tests with it.

Great posts.
