Steel Poll - What new steel would you like to try/test on a Spyderco Mule Team knife

Post by AlexRus »

Hi Mule Team fellows!
Just a little poll on what new steels that Spyderco hasn't presented in it's knife line yet you would like to see and test on one of the upcoming Mule Team releases? If you could choose one steel only.
Vote and/or specify your choice in comments. Let's see what's on your minds!

Share your thoughts and opinions in replies :)

I really can’t wait until the cpm magnacut mule but out of the listed ones I would be interested in vanax the most. It would probably be one of the most expensive mules to date though.

The most interesting steel for me is MagnaCut, but there was another Poll for this steel and I’ve voted for 2 pcs :)
Here I’ve voted for VANAX, but actually all of mentioned steels are interesting.
There is my rating of mentioned steels
1. MagnaCut
2. Vanax
3. CPM S125V
4. M398
5. Rex 121

Yeah, I'd like to try/test all those steels in the same geometry. A Mule knives set of 5 knives in mentioned steels would be about $500-700 at least, but would worth every penny :D

I didn't add MagnaCut to the list intentionally, because it's already discussed much how people would like to get it on the Mule Team and are waiting for it. There's even a poll dedicated to CPM MagnaCut exclusively:)
I'm in anticipation of a possible CPM MagnaCut Mule too
Just wanted to give other steels a chance to be considered too. There are really amazing steels in the listing above :)

Fully agree to pay $500-700 to try all these Mules :)

I think that more expensive steels will be the high Vanadium / Tungsten, not only by sheet price, but also because of the complexity of grinding steel.

Or $1500 on secondary market :D

Magnacut. :)

I'd buy any of the steels in the poll.

I don't know that I'll like m398 any better than m390 (I suspect I will like m390 better) but that's the whole point of a mule--to try out new steels and compare them.

I'd love to see Spyderco give us some Rex 121 to test. I don't have an apples-to-apples comparison, but so far my gut feel is that I like Spyderco's Maxamet better than the Rex 121 blade I have.

I've been messing around with Vanax quite a bit lately, but again I'd love to have a good apples-to-apples comparison.

80crV2 is a great steel- not new at all but it would be a good test mule for comparison to other steels
