Knife Knuts, Steel Junkies, and Mule...???

#1

Post by TazKristi »

Hey, everyone!
Most of you are familiar with the terms "Knife Knuts" and "Steel Junkies." We're curious, what nickname would you suggest for those who are passionate about the Mule Teams? Keeping in mind we like to steer clear of names that vilify our passion, or anything that you wouldn't say to your children or mother. ;)

What say you?

We're looking forward to seeing what you come up with!

Kristi

Muleists (sounds like “dualists”)
Mulers
Muleites
Muleiteers
Muleiroos
Muleinauts
Muleions
Muleniks
Muleineers (like “engineers”)
Muleitor
Muleata (sounds like “errata”)

If I were to choose, I'd go for Muleineers or Muleists, though Muleniks has its charm.

(There's also 'Mule Teamsters,' if you like a labor union sort of connotation.)

Mulie's. (Muley is actually a nickname for Mule Deer, but they haven't trademarked it, as far as I know. ;))

Drivers. Mule teams need drivers. Someone holding the reigns and keeping the team moving forward.

That’s a good one! Drivers were known as “Muleskinners,” or “skinners,” too.

Mule Skinner is a great name. Comes with a built in theme song, Mule Skinner Blues, Jimmie Rodgers, Bill Monroe, even Dolly Parton has done a version. Blue Yodel #8 stands out.

Obviously Kristi and Sal are the mule parents, right? So that makes them a horse and a donkey. All of us are prospectors working on our own thing, staking our claims and looking for our own kind of gold (we are an a never ending quest for the perfect mule metal). Maybe we’re a gang of Don Quixotes tilting at piles of cardboard boxes.

You are indeed a wise man, Pokey, to come up with the best suggestion yet.
And my support of your idea has nothing to do with my last name.

I like the mule team driver theme. A Muleteer was another term used long ago for someone who drove teams of mules. Teamster was also used... But I think someone may have a claim on that name already, lol.

I was also thinking maybe some sort of play on MTR. An MTR, or Mill Test Report, is a document that shows what a steel is made of, as well as the performance of the steel. Kind of what we're doing as testers of the Mule Team knives. MTR is also a nice acronym for Mule Team... Just gotta figure out a word that starts with "R" that would represent us testers.

Team

In France we have the word "pogonotome" for the one who pratice "pogonotomie".
Pogonotomia is the art of shaving, from the Greek words πώγων pogon "beard" and τέμνω témno, to cut.

I'm not a linguist and also not a native English speaker so I don't know if it's correct or sound good in English but for me a mulotome would be someone praticing the art of testing/using mule team blade and mulotomia/mulotomy, the art of testing/using MT.
But it probably sounds a bit pedantic for my way of mule team blades tests and uses, I'm more a pogotonome myself anyway, using a bunch of straight razors with different grinds and geometries.
