For the scales, I made my own micarta out of two old pairs of jeans. Epoxied them onto the tang and then used Chicago screws for hardware.

Image
The micarta is looking VERY good ! as for the overall design when it comes to overall shape or 3D contouring, you'll know what you want after a couple of Mules :open-grin

I've done a number of them now and seeing the way bartekkaniewski did the butt of his MT32 makes me tweak my design a bit more on the next iteration of it :squinting-tongue It never ends, and that's what is so good and entertaining about it.

:respect :respect
:respect In the collection :respect : Lots of different steels, in lots of different (and same) Spydercos.

Thank you! I’m VERY happy with how it feels in hand when using, and my first go at micarta seems to have come out as it’s supposed to. You’re right though, I’m already getting the itch to start another one. :open-grin

No, it wasn't difficult at all. It's fairly hard and I actually cracked one of the scales while tapping the the pins in. It wasn't a big deal since I hadn't done the sanding yet. So I just cut a new one.

I'm not Pacu but I've worked with the wood. Purple Heart needs some finesse to make & keep it bright purple if that's your goal, some exposure to UV but not lots. It'll go a muddy brown if not careful. Acetone wetting helps. And once finished, you want to keep the wood out of sunlight (if you want vibrant purple) so it tends to be chosen for "indoor knives." See for instance:

Thank for that Bolster! I'm venturing out into more woods and I'll definitely give that a try.

That’s VERY cool! I didn’t realize that you made your own knives too! From that angle, the styling just reminded me of one of Chad’s knives I saw a while ago.

I’ve made a handful of my own (Z-wear, 4V) and 5 groomsmen’s gift knives (4V) about 7 years ago, but they weren't nearly that nice! I still have some steel left, so maybe I should get back into it.

First time ever making scales for any knife.
Finally got around to trying to craft some scales out of the SPY27 as a groomsman/new dad gift for a buddy of mine, had a small little oopsie, did a little blue flake epoxy Kintsugi. I think it came out really well.
