Elmeringalo's handle is beautiful, I did a similar thing with my PD#1 mule but it didn't look that good. It's been changed since then and I don't remember there being much of a difference comfort wise.Xplorer wrote: ↑Wed Sep 08, 2021 11:06 am
Great looking work! I really love that sheath! You did something here with that handle that I've never done with a Mule handle. I'm guessing that taking the handle all the way forward and down to completely cover that little nub just behind the edge resulted in an extremely comfortable handle.?. Seeing you do this has me thinking about doing something similar with the next Mule handle I make. Well done!

Re: Show your Mule
Very nice work! I like the white handle and the blue pins. I think one of the aesthetic challenges here is the fact that the front edge of the little guard "nub" is very close to the plunge line but set at a very different angle. It would look nicer if the front of the handle was parallel with the plunge line and that little nub was modified to match the same angle.Joshcrutchley1 wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 6:44 amElmeringalo's handle is beautiful, I did a similar thing with my PD#1 mule but it didn't look that good. The reason it grabbed my attention originally was because I've experimented with bolster placement on a couple of my models and when compared side to side I've found the handles that extend further forward tend to be more comfortable overall. Then, I saw Elmeringalo's post and realized I've never done that with a Mule. I'll probably experiment with the idea a bit next time I make a Mule handle.
For example, while I'm quite happy with the comfort of both of the handles below, the one in the first picture is more comfortable than the one in the second picture and the only thing I did differently was I extended the bolster a little bit. It's a small difference...but I notice it nonetheless.
Best regards,
CK

Now that you point it out: Yeah. Good catch. I wonder if the front of the "nub" could be ground down to the same angle as the plunge line. It would be a smaller nub of course, but might help resolve the multiple angles issue.
Re: Show your Mule
^That's what I was thinking of trying too. If you draw a line parallel to the plunge you can see there's enough metal there to get it done. It would be a very easy mod on a belt grinder, or a disc grinder and doable with a hand file as well.

Got a new resin 3d printer and was really happy with this new set of translucent green scales for my MT29 Z-Max. Looking forward to putting this one to the test.

Wow, handles made on a resin printer. I need to finish a couple of other projects and then try one of these designs on my plain old FDM. Those are quite unique with the "see through" material. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Show your Mule
Yea, this set is by far my favorite of anything I have made so far.
The Resin I used was Elegoo translucent green. The printer is a Voxelab Proxima.
I have been making some scales with my fdm printer but the quality and resolution of the resin prints is amazing.

Re: Show your Mule
Printed up a knife stand for some of my Mules. I have also made a good collection of printed scales to choose from. Now, I just need to find a good source of the proper hardware so I can dress up the naked ones.
Anybody know where to get the proper threaded tubes or sex bolt style hardware in a good stainless steel?

Put on some walnut scales I bought from a craftsman on Etsy. Not sure I like them more than the gray G10. Whatcha think?petz462 wrote: ↑Wed Aug 25, 2021 5:24 pmFirst Mule:
today the UPS guy dropped the box off on the front porch. I went out and opened it on my trucks tailgate, Z-WEAR mule was shining. Walked out to the mailbox and lo and behold there was a small package from Halpern, inside were Option 5 Battleship Gray scales. A twofer. Quickly assembled, Yahoo!! Went to backyard and snapped this photo against a Northwest Florida Live Oak. A good day I must say!!
