Spyderco Mule Team - 2nd run

#1

Post by sal »

We're close to delivery on the first Mule Team run. Sure did seem to take longer than originally thought. 52100 is a great carbon steel and should be fun to cut with. Not fun to work with though.

I need to select another steel for the 2nd run. Please pick 3 in the preferred order.

thanx much.

Three stainless, 3 Carbon

OK I'll pick 3 steels for the Second Mule Team. Actually I'll pick 3 carbon steels and 3 super stainless steels
Carbon>> Original D-2 > 4140 > Hitachi Super Blue Steel
Stainless> Crucible M-4 > Cowry X > 20 CV

I've always wanted to know what a knife would be like with Hitachi Super Blue Steel and you can never go wrong with Crucible's great steels.

YRX7
CPM 3V (This will probably be a "never again" option if you go through with it)
Damasteel

With the Damasteel option though, I'd prefer to see it in the 3rd or so batch, and let those who have bought previous mules get preference, so we don't suddenly have others who've been in the program for longer missing out to people who just want a cheap damascus knife.

Edit: Altered first choice from M4 to YRX7

I'd love to see one in Friction Forged D2, but I don't think that's going to happen ;)

If the bearing steels are bad to work with what will you think about these HSS's Sal?

Sal,

Somehow I missed this thread. Guess I'm not paying attention...

can we pick any three steels or do you have some limitations on what you can acquire? Like certain vendors?

Is it to late to put in a request?

Are you still close to delivery and will you be posting purchasing instructions? Or did I miss that too?
