Amazing watching this come together. The shape is very reminiscent to me of the Rockjumper handle. Very handle forward like. I would buy this if it were a production piece.

Thought I’d share what I’ve been up to with some of my Mule handle scraps. So far I’ve mostly just messed with the m398 scrap but the Rex76 is definitely going to get used.

Keep in mind that this funky little slip joint knife is a work in progress, and is going to be an animal inspired knife in the same vein as the Spyderco Pochi. The reverse S blade is m398, with titanium liners, 1084 spring bar, and phosphor bronze washers. I still need to grind the bevels, as well as add some peculiar accents like sculpted thin g10 liners and a movable backspacer.

Anybody want to guess what animal it’s going to be? Please no spoilers from anyone that I’ve already told :)

Correct! I’ll take it as a good sign that was so easy :)

The plan is for black g10 that is sculpted to leave exposed Ti to create the white belly, and the backspacer will be feet so it can stand up with the blade at the half stop, and will fold to stick out the back of the scales slightly when the knife is in use (in theory lol).

I absolutely love that little penguin knife! Even more so I admire your ingenuity to carve out such a unique and functional blade from the Mule Team handle. I can’t wait to see that one finished up.

I’ve drawn dozens of knives using animals as inspiration, so I am particularly intrigued by this project! :respect

This thread is worthy of a stickie. Lacking that, I'll bump to the top.

That is just too clever! Now I'm curious how many OTHER blades you can make from a handle of a mule?

What I admire more than your ingeniosity is your skill ! You do have a lot of experience I guess but nonetheless, making folders that fast that seem to function very well is not a given at all.

It's fun watching your creativity Casper. I think the little one is my favorite so far. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished result.

Here are some progress picks of the little slipjoint that I’m making out of the handle scrap of my M398 Mule. There is still a bunch of work to do on this but since it’s felt like it was worth sharing since it now has more of the Penguin look that I’m going for. I plan to contour the g10 some more, as well as shape the exposed titanium belly.

Pretty soon I’m going to grind my bevels and try to wrap this one up. Next up will either be another scrap knife out of my Rex76 handle or I might start work on my RWL34 Mule. Enjoy!
