i loved the crow 2 in bd1. 100s times better than 8cr13mov. i bought one of the byrd robin 2s and was extremely dissapointed when i saw that the steel was really cheap 8cr, even tho the bigger ones like crow 2 have bd1 which is better. when are they releasing the robin in bd1, i would like to buy another that i wont have to give away in much better steel.

but byrd does and so does spyderco. i am sorry i do not understand exactly the problem with using a different steel that spyderco uses and makes for one of their knives.

Sal means that the factory that produces the Robin doesn't, or can't, work with bd1. They probably don't have the equipment necessary and don't want to invent in it. Just because spyderco uses the steel in their knives doesn't mean it's possible to use it in any knife.
