Why no logo?

Just curious why there is no counterpart to the spyderco bug for byrd blades? Seems like brand identity would be helped by a recognizable bird on the blade, and an easy critter to make a logo of.

I think it's the hole shape that takes the place of it.

Yeah, there's no mistaking the squinting eye in the blade :)

I'm no marketing pro, but a hole shape isn't really a logo.

Hi Araneae,

Probably not really a "logo" in the true sense, but it is trademarked and we've been using it as such.

The only other knife I have ever seen with the byrd eye came long before byrd. It was a Chinese Cricket knockoff in the Atlanta Cutlery catalog, back in 2001-2002

There are also things in logos that are rather subtle. A lot of times it's not what you see, but what you don't see in an empty space that makes part of the logo. I think with the byrd trademark hole, it's not what's etched or lased in the steel on the blade, it's what's missing, or the empty space that makes the trademark.

Other famous logos are the FedEx logo. See the white arrow between the capital E and the x? It's suppose to mean, "progress" and "moving forward." (except when it's on the left side of their vehicles/trailers ;) ) How many deer are on the Browning Buckmark ? There are two. The mule deer buck with its antlers is drawn by the thick lines and the doe is inside the lines. The Amazon logo has a few meanings. The gold arrow makes a smile and it's pointing from the a to the z because Amazon sells everything from a to z.
