The meadowlark photoshop job looks good.

I haven't been keeping up with the forums - but what about the idea of a flipper? It was discussed here a while back.

I could see a waved Cara Cara + waved trainer revitalizing interest in the model. You could sell them as a set for $45-50 and I bet that'd be popular.

I really like my Hawkbill and my two Finch 2s. I think I'd really, really like a hawkbill Finch 2 (a Hawkfinch?).

Decided to photoshop this one up...

I really like how that looks. However, every metal liner construction Spyderco or Byrd I've owned that had a 3 screw clip (rather than a wire clip) has had problems with the screw holes stripping out when trying to tighten them enough to eliminate clip wobble. I've also had problems with steel liners rusting on Chinese and Taiwanese made Byrds and Spydercos.

In contrast, the Cold Steel Tuff Lite uses a liner-less molded plastic handle with the pivot washers replaced by an integral raised area in each of the molded handle halves, plus it has fairly long metal thread inserts for the clip screws. The Tuff Lite is made in Taiwan, sells for roughly the same price as the Byrd LW models. But, the Tuff Lite is much better fit and finished than the FRN Byrds, is made in Taiwan, and has an AUS-8 blade. The Spyderco Native 5 LW has nearly identical construction, so Spyderco knows how to make knives this way. I'd love to see all the Byrd FRN models switched over to liner-less scales with thread inserts for the clip screws, and hopefully gain better fit and finish as a result.

I am glad to read that, because I have experienced the same,
my Byrd Crossbill, and Cara Cara 2 FRN both have loose screws and striped holes to the point that the clip on both is now wobbly and in high risk of falling. No amount of screwing or tightening solves that and they were not this way from the factory, they felt solid but have developed the issues in less than 2 years. :confused:

Also, my Resilience came New In Box with rust inside the clip screw holes, and it together with the Byrd Crossbill in G10 with steel liners are the only Spydies I have had that have easily rusted liners, I need to keep an eye on them or they'll quickly pit and rust away

Out of my 16 Spydercos only te Chinese and Byrds have shows or suffered this

I would like to see a glass breaker on the rescue model. I think the price and a glass breaker would make it a good gift for giving friends to keep in their vehicles encase of an emergency.

Hi Cbrstar,

Proper glass breakers are more complicated than it might appear. Check out the glass breaker on our Spyderco model. (Assist). We had to break many windows in wrecking yards before we got it right. Shape, material, point, etc. We also had to split the mold so we could make it possible for someone to replace the carbide glass breaker if needed.

I finally learned the other day about the legendary C15 Bob T and I feel like this knife needs to make a comeback. So why not as a byrd, but with some major updates?

1) Make the handle scales from Titanium.
2) Make it an open back. ( if the original is already an open back please ignore)
3) Add some finger choils like on the cara cara
4) Offer the blade in Tanto style.
5) If possible make it from bd1

I think the style of this knife may have fallen out of style back in the 90's because back then boxes were bad and
curves were good. But I feel like boxes are back in style and it's time for a come back for this cool and iconic model.

...photo shopping this is harder then I expected. The tanto blade make it look like a c15 and a c46 had a baby.

Wow this is nice. Byrd knives have their unique place as the potential gateway Spyderco knife. I've never wanted to spend the money on a Spyderco wharncliffe, not knowing if I'd like it, because I definitely wasn't a fan of the look of it. However, for $20-25, I'd love to try it as see what all the hoopla is about this blade shape. But then I might be hooked, and end up buying $100 hap40 wharncliffe models etc lol. Maybe Spyderco better not come out with this after all.

A Byrd without the horrible excessive white loctite. :eek:

I’d say the screw quality has improved but it’s going to get stripped anyway if those horrible white loctite is still abundantly used. It defeats the point having 4 positions for the clip if it’s not even removable from the one it’s attached by default.

How about a big knife for camping with a 6 or 8 inch blade in 8cr13mov with removable handle scales.
