araneae wrote:I always liked the Starling, it was a very close clone of the Ladybug in terms of handle design. I liked the blade shape too and preferred it greatly to the Finch. Perhaps my taste was different than the wider market as we have seen a Finch 2 surface. I would love to see the model return, it was a perfect budget keychain knife and in my opinion deserves a return to the lineup. Maybe G-10, maybe FRN- either way I'd buy it.

Got mine today, a little less than a year from my initial post asking about this! Very nice, finish is excellent, wicked sharp edge. Feel in hand is familiar and it has zero play in all directions. Opening is not the smoothest (backspring is very strong), but I expect it will wear in a bit with use. Will try to get some pics in tomorrow if I have time. Thanks for giving this little Byrd a 2nd chance Sal.

Hi Rock,

Welcome to our forum.

Adding variations of models is pretty much dependent on sales and demand. We have to make fairly large quantities of each variation. At this time, the sales do not warrant additional inventory.

Starling 2 looks great, love the grind and decision to switch out for g-10, but my wife and I (birding enthusiasts and keepers of our own beloved pet European starling) are pining for the feather patterned polymer handles. Always thought Sturnus Vulgaris made for a great aesthetic template, from the iridescent polychromy of the mantle feathers, the delta-wing triangular profile in flight, and of course the eponymous speckled belly. Still, s2 is a great knife and at home with my dear wife's edc (everyday dog care) package
