Meadowlark2 G10=WOW!

#1

Just got a new Meadowlark2 in G10, wow! The fit and finish on this thing is just top freakin' notch! Love the notched stainless backstrap, love it.

This is the first byrd I have picked up in G10, the other two are FRN and the G10 really seriously ups the perceived quality of this knife! It feels like a $100 knife in the hand. Very well done Sal and company. Now please, please, please make the byrd Hawkbill in G10 just-like-this! :-) I will buy several!

Hats off to Spyderco and their super budget friendly byrd line... one of the best values on the market. Can't wait to see the new Raven & Crow!!!

(BTW, I am doing this on my phone so can't post up pics of my new Meadowlark2 G10…will do so later this weekend.)

hi there, yes they really are good value knives,I prefer the feel of the byrd compared to the delica as you can choke up more on the blade.handle is really grippy too.the blade on mine is really thin behind the edge so cuts really well, much better than the all steel model which seems a lot thicker for some reason.

Meadowlark 2 G10 is a great knife and I was very excited it came full flat ground.
I compared it to a first generation and became aware I like those even more. They have a slightly bigger opening hole and the thickness behind the edge of those hollow ground blades is rather up to my taste.
The second generation seems to be made for harder use, more steel way down to the edge and a smaller cut out to open it (it works perfectly fine, I just prefer the older version, mainly for looks).
A wonderful knife anyways, especially for the possibility to choke up on the blade, the ergos in general and the steel which holds up very well in all my Byrds and :spyder: s.

The 10 android 2.2 tabletoverall look and feel of the slate seems to be decent.

All of you are right on the money!! The quality of this knife is way beyond the $25 price tag! As I stated in another post, the strength and weight of the knife move it from a light to light/medium duty knife. The G10 scales are luxurious, much like my AMK Seres and the 8CR steel is extremely competent. Again, it outperforms its price point.

How is the action on this knife?

I got two FRN Meadowlark 2's and when you press the lock release, there's like a 30 degree swing where the blade doesn't contact the lock bar. Neither of mine feel like any lockback from Spyderco or Byrd I've ever used. I sent them in for warranty thinking something was wrong and was told they were within spec.

I've been staying away from the G-10 Meadowlark 2 because of it.

I have a M'lark 2 that drops just like this when you depress the lock bar- I like it. It is very smooth and I don't see any reason to be concerned..
So many knives, so few pockets... :)

Mine is somewhat stiff but I don´t care. Even my Manix2 doesn´t swing free.
btw: I came to prefer the hollow grinds on byrds as tapering isn´t as progressive as on flat ground :spyder: s

Mine barely moves when I hit the lock release. Doesn't seem to bother me.

I just sharpened my FRN Meadowlark, the grind is a little uneven (one side took more to get to 15° than the other) but polished up to 3000 grit it's extremely sharp.

Just got a Meadowlark in G10 over the weekend and just like the OP and others I am very impressed.
Fit and finish is imacculate and it feels great in the hand.

The locking and pivot are fine on mine.
My Cara Cara will swing back to a 90 degree angle when I release the lock bar, which I like, but this is much stiffer.

All in all a great deal.

Mine is definitely much stiffer. I wish it would swing freely because I cannot flick the knife open even with significant wrist action, like I can with the Cara Cara 2.

I have picked up G10 Robins and Cara Caras, and still carry the Cara Cara with some regularity. I'm amazed at the quality of this thing at the price. I carry it right alongside my Manix2s and other spydies. The notched backspacer is a nice touch and saves a little weight on a knife with a good heft to it. It's nice to have a good-looking knife that is so inexpensive I won't cry if I tear it up. (I haven't been using mine for prying, but if I had to, better that one than a Navaja or M4 Mili ;) )
