Hi, everyone:
We will be doing some maintenance on the forum on Thursday, 1-May at 09:00 am MDT. We will take the forum down for this. We anticipate it will take approximately one hour to complete.
Thank you all for making our community something...
So, you bought a Mule Team? Congrats! Are you looking for a little inspiration to personalize it? Are you interested in testing the steel and comparing it against another? Or have you already personalized and tested multiple Mules, and you want to share...
For those of you who are anxious for a new Mule Team blade offering, I suspect that there may be a delay due to the existing MT blades remaining in stock. I think this could be a factor in releasing any new blades. When the blades in stock are sold off, I...
I know much of the Mule Team program was designed towards knife steel discovery and testing. Along with the great discussions we have here about steel qualities, sharpening, and handle/sheath making, I thought a thread with a user-oriented tone could...
Here’s a mule modified for lightweight backpacking. The index finger radius was reduced for comfort, the handle slimmed, the end bobbed & a middle oval ground. All edges heavily chamfered, then the handle was stonewashed (you can just see the two-tone...
After careful review of these forums, officially jumped into the Mule Team world and order the MT36 K294.Received today a MT38 Böhler M398 Microclean blade.
I had to search for MT38, as it’s not listed for sale on the website. It popped up as Sold Out....
I plan to cut out the metal between the large holes of a mule, creating one or more ovals and lightening the knife. I've done this before by first rough-cutting the area between holes with a Dremel-style cutoff disc, then smoothing the edges with a small...
I wanted to share a recent project that I’ve been working on with my most recent Mule purchase. This is the second Mule for me, and I realized that even though I love the concept behind the Mule Team I don’t ever carry fixed blade knives. Since I carry a...
After watching Shawn Houston’s video on edge stability, it got me thinking if there could be a possibility of a high hardness 52100 Mule like the 66 HRC example featured in his video.
Very impressed with its capabilities at such low geometry.
Hello folks,
First off greetings from far north. I’m new to this forum and this is my very first post. So far I only own a couple “spydies“. An Endura 4 K390 and a para 3 Spy27, with the Mule K94 that I just ordered becoming the 3rd one.
Over the last years, there has been a lot of talk about Rex steel. However, one of them I rarely hear mentioned is CPM Rex 54 (M4 Modified with Cobalt). Which to me is one of the most interesting Rex steels. I see it as a high hardness M4 (up to around...
First proto for a SPY27 mule, one of many I'm sure. Long way to go till its useful.
Used the slicer to split down the center of the blade cutout & flip one side over.
Otherwise the blade cutout volume would have been a hot mess.
Took about 95 mins to...
For anyone who's used one, how do you like the mule team leather sheath? As the upcoming HIC mule will not fit the standard Boltaron sheath, I was considering purchasing one of the leather ones rather than the HIC mule-specific Boltaron model, my thought...
I was a little surprised not to see an actual performance thread rather other than sharpening and first impressions. Hopefully this thread will begin receiving some additional feedback (or linked to the current running performance thread that I am unaware...
Where can I source/commission custom Mule Team scales? I’ve seen some really nice ones by Ethan Roach E3 Scales, but I dont think he is around anymore.
I touched up the edge to hair shaving sharp and then used my AEB-L Mule to cut up circa 2Kg of top round steaks into jerky meat. At the end, the edge was still shaving sharp and there was no discoloration on the blade. This one will probably go with me on...
I just purchased a SPY27 mule and am hoping to try it out this year skinning a whitetail. The blade shape isn't that of a typical skinning knife so I'm wonder if anyone has used the mule for skinning and how did you like it.
I was wondering if anyone had interest in a titanium alloy mule. As a backpacker, gear weight is a big consideration; that is why cookware and utensils are made out of titanium. Titanium is corrosion resistant and not affected by saltwater. It has been...
This one looks interesting, similar to other super tool steels, but the composition is a bit different, with higher W and Co, which is interesting. I have never seen a knife made from it, and there isn't much out there except Bohler spec sheets and a few...
There's been talks of a new LT steel coming out, looks like it's in an early release proto type phase. There's another knife maker (I'm not sure if it's against policy to list that here) that released a batch and I got my hands on it. Early rumblings are...
Hi, I'm more of a lurker on here, but I try to keep an eye on upcoming releases so I can do my research on the steel type and whatnot. It seems like the last few weeks/months there hasn't been a lot of traction on a new model release. Would the powers...
I will try to wrap my coming MT23 with some paracord I have at hand. Obviously there are different techniques how to do it, with different results. How did you do yours? Feel free to post pics, maybe even a link to a video showing how to do it in that...
Hi folks. I purchased a MT off the secondary market that already has Halpern Micarta 3D scales installed but no sheath. Has anyone tried using any of the sheaths off of the Spyderco site for these scales and are they compatible? Does anyone know of a good...
With the disappointing news of not being able to get a Rex121 mule, it got me thinking of what we could expect next. I'm hoping for the Vanadis 8 or even 4E (love 4V steel), ASP60 or even another laminated steel or better yet Damascus.
Would love if Spyderco would produce a base comparative test set of mules. This way we could all have a base test set to compare new knife steels with. Not sure what steels would be in the base mule set. But maybe the Spy 27, one of the salt series...
