Hey, everyone!
We successfully moved and updated the forum! Happy to be back! I've noted some new features below. If you find any issues or have any questions, please post them IN THIS THREAD.
Hello guys. Those are in my house currently.
Red/black is my personal mule in magnacut, purple one i made for my wife....etc... IMG_20231224_171218_147.jpg
So I was thinking of hunting down some mules I don’t have but that would mean buying used mules or flipped ones. Not sure I want to support the practice of buying a mule just to sell it, but…….. at least the mule should be all shiny and nice???? Used...
I will try to wrap my coming MT23 with some paracord I have at hand. Obviously there are different techniques how to do it, with different results. How did you do yours? Feel free to post pics, maybe even a link to a video showing how to do it in that...
Playing the game of whack a mule hot spot. Trying out this mod to see how well it performs with hot spot reduction. So far so good. Adjusted thumb ramp and finger guard with some success
I finished up my first Mule, as I posted in another thread I'm working on 3 (now 4, ordered a SPY27 for a son in law) Mules. 2 T15, 1 K294 and, once it arrives, a SPY27 MULE2.
I used Ultrex SureTouch with blue G10 and black rubber layers on this one....
So I took on this little comparison, mostly out of boredom, and party because I wanted to test assumptions that Kizer probably didn't do a good heat treat on their 10V. Considering that I could probably count on Spyderco's, I figured a comparison between...
Next Tuesday will wrap up the 1st 39 mules with K294. Sal mentioned 19C27, so that could be MT40 and as we've seen drops or announcements are not always sequential with their numbering system. There is also elastic ceramic that is, hopefully, coming soon,...
I plan to cut out the metal between the large holes of a mule, creating one or more ovals and lightening the knife. I've done this before by first rough-cutting the area between holes with a Dremel-style cutoff disc, then smoothing the edges with a small...
Dear all,
This is my first Mule project.
I used an M398 (MT38) blade paired with Cuscadi G10 glow in the dark scales and a Francesco Nova custom leather sheath.
Choose this setup as a to go companion hunting knife:
1) M398 steel because it is a stainless...
Shot this cow elk with my 50 cal muzzleloader at about 180 yards. It was about 5:00, so I knew I'd be skinning and quartering her mostly in the dark. I proved that PMA11 steel holds a VERY sharp edge for a LONG time. Even though I skinned the cow,...
Any way to non-permanently attach Mule scales w/o gluing them? Planning on picking up a HIC, and have ordered Ultem scales for it. Thought it might be cool to have a knife with zero metal components.
Does anyone here use an affordable CNC machine to shape hardwood scales? I'm thinking of getting a small CNC machine (SainSmart Genmitsu 3020 Pro) and one of the purpose is to shape mule scales for my use.
I think I had more of these........ maybe around here somewhere. Anywho, firing up this old project again. These will be finished out with 1 of kind scales and mosaics. I have a box of very rare and unique blocks / scales I have also been collecting....
Looking for a little guidance on how to handle rust underneath scales.
Located in warm coastal area with higher humidity (five miles inland) and they are stored in climate controlled area. Mules are used in kitchen work, box cutting, woodwork, camping,...
Curious if it's just mine or if anybody else has observed it. I am grinding at 15 degrees per side (12 degree wedge plus the 3 degree primary blade grind) and on an Atoma 140. It seems to settle out when going up to a higher grit, but with a 120x loupe I...
It is rare that I start a thread here and this will be a first of sorts for me. I purchased 4 (yes boys, four) AEB-L Mules to back up my sentiments in asking Spyderco to introduce finer grained and higher hardened low-end steels into their...
I'm curious how the steel evolved between the mule and the production model. I just found my magnacut mule, which I'd lost. Does spyderco change things (e.g. heat treat) based on data from the mules?
Well I bought my first spyderco Knife and it was a mule. I was impressed. I decide to try make handles for it shaping pins for it. It was going to till everything went out control. Sad to say my mule is snapped in half and I got 10 stitches.I do say...
Hey guys, I'm pretty new to the forum and new to different knife steels. So far, I've got experience with some lower quality steels and some experience (little) with higher quality (CPM D2, H1, VG-10). I'm looking at buying my first mule team knife, but...
I've been using this M398 Mule for a few months now and the edge retention is awesome but the blade chips very easily. I have been cutting every cardboard box I can get my hands on with it and it will cut them forever without dulling but was...
With over 50 suggestions in play, there can be no doubt that y'all are passionate about the Mule Team! I have narrowed the options down to 9. Please vote for your favorite!
Names were removed from consideration for various reasons, but if your past...
My first time posting here so please forgive my ignorance?? Has 8670M Steel ever been used for a Mule ?? I think that’s something I would definitely be interested in owning. Thank you
Got my hands on a MT01P 😁😁.
I talked about trying to find some Westinghouse micarta for the handle and immediately got a reply saying It is very collector and you're still gonna use it?
I decided that it's been too long since my last Mule handle and it is time to make a new one. This time however, I am going to take pictures of every step of the process so you can follow along and...
With the handle finished the knife is more usable now, but it's still hard to leave the house with it until I have a sheath. So, now I'll spend about 2 hours and make a Kydex sheath for the Mule.
What is your Maggie Mule performance? I just got my two this morning :star-struck and will have to scale up and put to the gauntlet. Mine came pretty sharp, enough to shave but not pop arm
hair cleanly. Will have to strop and see results. The first one I...
with my first mule successfully ordered, i'm naturally looking into scale and sheath options.
scales:
i looked at the gallery scales. i'm not sure i want g10 for this knife and i've seen mixed reviews of the texturing. so, i'd prefer micarta, but i'm...
First, for everyone saying both, nice thought but not an option right now.
The descriptions read on Spyderco's web pages don't really help me differentiate between them. Rex T15 seems to be an older steel and K294 appears to be a brand formulation.
