I want to put together my own mule. I am looking for a stainless steel that holds a decent edge and is not a bear to sharpen. i dont know much about either the cruwear or elmax. what would you all recommend?
Im a big fan of the mule project idea, but I dont have the skills to make scales and sheaths (but i do love to sharpen). I also us my knives so I am attracted to an EDC style folder.
Im sure their might be warranty issues or a negative effect on...
I was just trying to attach a set of Halpern scales to my new Elmax Mule, but the hardware pass-throughs (the holes in the handle) are full of rough metal. Has anyone else had this issue? What type of sandpaper do I need to remove the excess metal so that...
Another thought's been floating around in my head for a while now. I'd like to break into the Mule project, seems like a great idea as described on Spyderco's website and from the praise I've seen in all the forums.
Hi Folks,
This is my first set of scales on the cruwear mule. I cut the tree and dried the wood for several years to make a walking staff but decided to make the scales. I stabilized the wood in a wood hardener for 2 weeks and dried for several weeks. I...
I just finished my second Mule: a Woodcraft. With the encouragement of some other forum members, I decided to use Micarta for the handle material this time. I definitely plan on using Micarta for future projects. I love how much more stable it is than...
Its been a while... But now Im back to waste more time talking to y'all losers... I kid I kid!
Ive been doing a whole lot of wood working lately, including a couple mules I plan to post once the finishing touches are done. Ive really enjoyed working on...
Got my mule today - thanks again Farid for this exciting project.
Here is my just received mule as is , compared to my Spyderco mules. In the middle is a Cruwear mule (with the ergonomic changes I make to suit me better, and balance better in the hand),...
I'm planning to make some scales for the upcoming Elmax Mule and I have a some Bocote that I'm plan on using for scales but I want to get some pins, mosaic or otherwise for the handle. Given some of the great work I've seen on here, I was curious if...
Just finished putting a plain Jane worker oak handle on my first mule. Dressed it up a little with some home-made mosaic pins. Feels great in the hand. It actually looks a little better than in the photo.
The steel seems to take a great edge. I'll use it...
I decided to jump into scaling a Mule headfirst. The scales themselves are coming along nicely, I'm working on some slim cocobolo ones right now and I'll probably make a set of black micarta ones as well.
As you guys can tell from a previous thread I started, I just finished my first mule handle and really enjoyed it. I now have a Spyderco Woodcraft blank I need to make a handle for and would like to pick your brains.
I searched all over the forum and see little to no talk of this steel. I know it is a variant on ATS-34 and I see it in some custom makers knives. Would this make a good (reasonably priced) mule or production steel? Thoughts, comments, criticisms?
I got an M390 mule a few months ago and have been waiting until I visited my brother in Hawaii to make a handle for it (he's a lot better with woodworking than I am). I gave him a COS-3 mule and we had a great time making the handles. The wood we used was...
Just wondering if anyone has picked up any of the new ultra slim grips or the limited edition grips with the combo colors? I am interested in the combo colors but I am curious how the colors are incorporated. Is it layers or the colors mixed in and...
I cut these slabs from a Japanese Cherry tree that has been drying for 4 years and is very hard. I’m going to try to make the handles for a mule using this wood with a foliage green spacer and ¼” brass corby rivets. I started conditioning the slabs in...
sometimes it is just some of you that inspires me to make new leatherwork.
This one I made on special request for another forumite.
He wanted to carry the mule high and with exposed handle on his belt.
We finally agreed to make this pancake,...
Has anyone heard anything about the re-release of the Cru-Ware Mule Team? I'm looking forward to it. I know it was talked about late December/early January but I'm getting a bit anxious waiting.
It's no big thing for me really, just thought I'd post the observation. Not too many of these Mules are in general use anyway. Here's a pic of what I saw through a 15X loupe when I was looking at the edge today.
Just did the basics on my M390 mule, nothing crazy or fancy. Installed a set of orange G10 Halpern scales, made my own kydex sheath, and then attached it to an ESEE 3 molle nylon back. All came together great and I am very happy with how it all came out....
I am really intrigued by the edge retention results i see on Bohler Uddeholm Vanax 35 and 75. I was wondering if it could be considered for the mule if spyderco can get access to enough of it to make some.
I'm thinking a folder version of the Mule. FFG blade, no handle scales, but comes with a template for scales and includes screws. How sweet would that be!?!
The mules were coming out pretty quickly this year it seems. Or is it usual for 3 or 4 per year? I had been eyeing the M390 mule for some time, scraping together funds and checking every week on those still being available. Last week ok, this week ok, I...
Whats up yall, just posting to see what steels people might want in the next upcoming Mule team (once the cruware is fixed and sold). Vote and maybe it'll happen!
Very glad I have a sharpened blank in this material. Looking forward to playing with it. I don't know how many were left when I purchased mine, but I read that Spyderco was pretty close to being out of them.
